Knock ??

Hello,

I am have a bit of knock in my stock Evo rom and I am trying to give it a little tune this is my first time tuning my Evo ECU I am waiting to receive LC1 because I don"t have one installed yet so I can't give you AFR scales but this is stock at 22psi and JDM Evo. What I need to know for example 6500rpm I only have 5 degrease of timing and at 7000rpm I have 8 degrease of timing and I have 8 counts of knock with both rpm's. I have seen other maps and most people have at 6500rpm 8 degrease of timing and at 7000rpm 10 degrease of timing is this the issue for me ? is my timing to low and this will cause knock ? I could try adding timing but I rather here for you guy's first

If its knocking there it could be the following

- to much timing
- to rich AFR
- to lean AFR

with my experience with the JDM Evos I would say its to much timing. You can pull 1 degree and see if it helps, but you really need your WB02 to diagnosis it properly

Ok but if timing is low could this cause knock or not ???

Mine seems already to low but like you said I have no WB02 so I can't really know I will have to install it first.

your timing isnt low! I am running around the same as you

see attached csv for a 3rd WOT, this is running 23 psi tuned to 12.5AFR on spool up, 12 AFR peak, 11.1 AFR at redline on our 95RON petrol (about the same as your 93 octane)

trying to tune without a wideband is just plain crazy IMO. How many counts of knock are you getting?

I have another question on the high octane timing map if I am at 220 load at 6000rpm and my timing map says 9 is that the timing that I am running or is it just a number ?

I know that the fuel map is just numbers but is the high octane timing map the same just number or is it the timing the car is running ?

It's the timing the car will attempt to run. If it detects enough knock the timing will get pulled (read: lowered).

the safest thing you could do would be to take some timing out.

Typically you will see worst knock around peak load/ 3500 rpm. Tuned maps will vary as to what will work, from 0 to 6 depending on nothing in particular.
IX models tend to carry more timing at low rpm while the VIII model carries more towards redline.=(IIRC).
