people artificially make more power up top by ramping up boost with rpm.
hope u understand

JohnBradley already answered the question.. the thread should be closed can be manipulated by timing & afr & ebc.

If you want to check out some serious details about how engines work, check out "Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals" by John Heywood, I took one of his classes at MIT.

Hey Guys, not trying to bring a thread up from the dead but I want to learn/research how to control torque, didn't want to make a new thread since this was just on topic.
I have been doing some extensive reading for the past few weeks and know that a stock block evo 8 can only take around 420ish ft/lbs of torque but can make 500+hp.

How do people make sure their torque doesn't rise above 400 but be above 500hp?

Must you have a boost map to tune? Play with timing ?
Any information/thread anything would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Ok so we have a stock block, you want to keep your maximum torque at 400 lbs/ft for the blocks sake.

Say youre able to make 400 lbs/ft at 4200rpms. At 4200rpms youre making 320hp. For the sake of argument, lets also say your torque curve is totally flat at 400ft lbs throughout the rest of the power band (keep in mind Im just saying this to keep the example simple). At 7500rpm with 400 lbs/ft, your horsepower is 571.

(400lbs/ft X 7500rpm) / 5252 = 571hp. As you see, while keeping under the recommended limit to keep the block happy, you were able to make over 500whp because of the relationship HP has to torque. 5252 is where the hp and torque curves cross, HP is derived from torque at a certain RPM. As stated, timing, AFR and boost will help keep everything in check.

I hope that helped a bit!
