Idle issue - very lean, weird STFT
#32
Alright, checked the IAC motor this evening. I took it out and had a look at it, it didn't look overly dirty. had my dad turn the keys to "on" and listened for clicking, but didn't hear anything! I was holding the IAC in my hand and I felt a little judder as the car turned on, but no clicking or moving that I could see. Does this mean a bad IAC?

Take the three screws out. Have someone turn the ignition to the middle position which does not engage the starter. Keep it plugged in. The solenoid will move and click. Try to turn it. If it does not move that is good as the teeth can go bad. Get a voltmeter/circiut tester. Check the middle pin with one lead and one of the outer with the other. Do both rows. It should register between 22 and 30 ohms resistance. If any of these fail get ready to spend. $175-200.
The iac failing is likely for our symptoms. Mine is ok. 03s tend to fail more than the others according to what I have read.

would that explain why with my a/c on my a/f stays pretty consistent, then after about 5 seconds at idle it hits a rich spot goes into the 11's or 10's, then goes real lean, then stabilizes??

i would realy like to see a fix for this.. im going to replace my front o2 once i rebuild my car. my afr is "---" on the uego and ltft is -25 i dont remember what my stft was but my trims were in check before with fic 1050cc but afr was always pined lean on idle.. not that i mind .. just seemed weird that trims say " with-in stoich" and wbo2 saying "lean" .

Andrew...are u running E85 when the cold start issues happen or is it 92? I've been dealing with the same thing when I run E85 and I've been able to smooth it out with the injector primer and cranking IPW tables...i run FIC 1050's tho and like I said its only when im running E85....are you still on the stock injectors?

So far, stock injectors, and 92oct. I have some PTE 880's that are waiting to go in, but I've been too lazy to do it, and frankly, I don't need 'em yet on my stock turbo @ 25lbs lol.
I adjusted my Injector IPW a bit before, and it solved my problem during the hot weeks we had this summer, but as the temp dropped to ~60 or so, it started happening again. Now it's every time.

Ok, I tried cleaning the IAC and checking it how I could (no voltmeter) and I'm getting to be pretty sure that's the problem.
I've posted a little clip on youtube of the car idling, could someone take a look and confirm that's it's the IAC? This is idling in traffic.

Another update:
The new IAC didn't fix anything at all. The bad idle was back the day after I did the swap. I've setup the car to run in open loop at < 2000rpm and the idle is suddenly rock-solid, however, in traffic when I just want to nudge forward, I'd give it gas and slip the clutch a bit, and then it would drop to 400rpm and climb back up. Once it got back up to it's normal idle though it stayed there, so it appears to be ECU-related.
That being said, if there are any tuners out there reading this, I'm fully willing to pay to have someone help me fix this, I've just about had enough with this crap. If you think/know you can fix this, please PM me.
In the meantime, I may try re-scaling the MAF just for ***** and giggles.
