Fried Tactrix Cable - How?

Last night Scheides, t-revzr and I got my new 2.3 build up and running.

Shortly after hooking up the battery, Scheides used my Tactrix cable to pull the SD rom tune out and modify it for the new 1680cc FIC High-Z injectors. The goal was just to get the engine fired up and running, check for leaks and then trailer it up to DB Performance for a tune.

After Scheides tweaked the fuel settings, I cranked the engine over for the first time without plugs ignition or injectors hooked up. The goal was to build up some oil pressure first, then hook everything up and fire it up. (Cable was still plugged in during this event)

After cranking to build oil pressure, I got out of the car and helped with hooking everything up for the first fire up of the engine. When I got back into the car I smelled burnt electronics and we yanked the negative battery cable.

My access cable was fried, it had been hooked up the entire time but I have no idea why this would be bad as I drove around with the cable hooked up for years.

We slowly troubleshoot everything electrical we could think of and found nothing odd, eventually tried starting the car, fired right up and runs great.

Anyone ever fry a Tactrix cable? Any idea on how it shorted out?

Here's a pic of the fried 1.3 cable. I have never ever seen this before. Laptop seems to be fine, I'll make sure usb ports respond properly but my 2.0 cable lights up when I plug it in; that's all the testing I did.

All I can say is *whew* we got FIC 1680's to idle nearly perfect on the first and *only* try! I didn't have my CT9A add-on plug with for my 2.0 cable so we only had one chance at it. Thanks to those that have posted data on these, couldn't have done it without you.

That's...impressive. ;-) Any chance you've taken the housing off yet? We might be able to tell what component fried from the board inside and the pins that took damage.
