Knock Tables

Hey tuners can you tell me if you guys consider the stock knock tables too sensitive?. In what situations other than false knock from engine harmonics do you adjust the tables and actually make more power from the tune?

I don't think the stock knock tables would be too sensitive on a stock motor. Unless you have aftermarket internals, you normally shouldn't have to mess around with those tables.

False knock is the only reason you want to adjust them; a knocking engine won't make more power than one that is properly tuned to not knock, and even if it does, if the ECU isn't adjusting the timing to keep the knock under control, it'll only have that extra power until something goes boom...

yes sometimes you can have an overly sensitive knock sensor and if so you can always turn it down a little but never to much after all it is there for a reason

Everytime i go to my tuner to get tuned i lift the knock threshold line out of the way by raising the multipliers, let him do his thing on Det cans and then drop the multipliers back down until i start to see 1 or 2 counts. I then know i have a sweet tune and knock protection from the ECU in the event of bad fuel or unusual load.

Built engine

Is the knock tables reset to stock after? If so , you could have left them in the first place as they would have been working accurately I guess

Not sure. Ive had phantom knock on my 2.3L, but i was on e85 so much easier to adjust the knock filter settings safer on a high octane fuel to confirm it is indeed false knock detection.

to answer your question; you adjust the knock MULTIPLIER tables.

No, but enough to provide safety cover just infront of the tune.

I would be horrified if a tuner was not using det cans when he tuned my car. Infact if he wasn't he would not be tuning it and i would be going back.
