I see. Makes sense. Thanks for the info.

What VP race fuel should I test with? Can i get away with vp 110, c12, or c16?

You don't want to throw just any VP racing fuel in there. You want to read up the different traits of the different fuels

That's why i was asking...

I'm not trying to make peak power, I'm just trying to suppress knock for a few pulls. So what would you recommend?

Use VP 100 street blaze to test.

My knock sensor tables read:

background noise multiplier
tripple
single
load threshold. Am I missing some tables?

Thank you. I think Im gonna raise the knock multiplier by 20% per jcsbanks thread, in a specific RPM range that seems to litter my knock counts 5-9 3000-4500 15-20 psi of boost, only during spool. Seems logical given the S2 cams with upgraded springs and retainers. Are Ti retainers quieter than cromoly or something similar?

I definitely dont want to blow a rod through the block, so Im following a lot of these threads in depth.

Knock voltage is the one I log to see the baseline noise my motor makes? Does boost make a motor noisier than no boost? theoretically i could rev my motor with no boost and see how much noise a given rpm produces then compare that to "with load"

tenatively all this including homemade det cans

Boost makes it noisier when it knocks Assuming no knock, it isnt inherently louder though. The main thing to keep in mind is the data rate is pretty slow to rely on knock voltage in the stock ECU. It is a guideline like anything else so rely on your detcans since that is REAL.

Guys, would a few counts of knock up top, between 6k and 7k have a major effect? My runs are clean but as soon as I get a little bit of temps going then I start to pick up 1-3 counts up top.

Cheers

If its real knock, yes it can have a major effect. The higher the RPM, the greater damage can occur during a knock event.

Yeah I'd drop a couple of degrees out of it if you are getting any knock. Evos tend to knock first run on spool (1-2 counts thats it) then should pull clean all the way through the pull every other time. Sounds like you are heatsoaking the cooler, pushing 22+psi up top on the stock 9 turbo I found will do this if you do multiple pulls/hills/track driving with a stock cooler.

My biggest problem for months has been spool knock. It acts like an air bubble trapped under a piece of vinyl. I cure one spot and it pops up in another. 2500-4500 . With self constructed set cans ie ear muffs and hose, what does knock sound like ?

Its incrediably hard to put into words actually. Everyone I know explains it differently lol. I think it sounds like a thin sheet of metal being wiggled around to simulate the sound of lightning, only at a higher pitch. I heard someone explain it as the sound of a high tension cable snapping. There are a few clips on youtube from 'TheKnockBox' and 'Phormula' and a few other companies with recorded clips.
