FP Black

Hey All,

Question we just installed a New FP Black on a Evo8 MR

This car still has the stock intercooler, but other mods are

BC 280/280 Cams
GSC Springs Retainers
Walbro
MAP 02 Dump
HKS Exhaust
FIC 1050cc injectors

The turbo was supposed to have an 18psi spring, but was only hitting 12psi,

anyway while tuning we had to screw 90% Duty cycle into it to get 27psi of boost, this doesnt sound right.

would it be the intercooler restricting flow? or something wrong with the turbo?

Cheers guys

Put a myte vac pressure tester on the actuator nipple and watch wastegate arm move (note at what pressure its opening) that is what spring pressure it is

Might well be a 12 psi spring

easiest thing to do now is to tighten the wastegate arm to make sure it is fully closed also make sure there are not exhaust and boost leaks.

There are no exhaust or boost leaks

the bov is a turbo smart its most definitely not leaking

Its got an open dump so i know the Wastegate isnt creaping open before target boost either

Its just weird that i have to run 90% duty cycle for the wastegate to get 27psi of boost thats wrong

im going to assume 90% wgdc correct? check the rod on the actuator and see how many threads are showing. sounds like it needs some pretension aka shortening of that rod.

This is exactly what i thought, im going to have a look at it tonight and tighten it up a bit and see how we go, because its a LAG monster too at the moment

Full boost @ 5500

Nice choice on turbo..

Something isnt right if your getting full boost at 5,500rpm!

Yeh exactly,

this isnt my car, its a mates car.

The lag and the amount of WGDC i have to enter to get it to increase boost all leads to incorrect Pre-Load on the wastegate arm.

Also the car doesnt make any power, 27psi 245kw, albeit it still had the stock intercooler, which is getting changed tonight

It should be making more power then that

do a compression test. It could be low causing the lag and no power.

Next question since the preload is lag, is what controller? I have seen HKS that even with a 18psi actuator dont want to run over 30. Some just dont have the range in the solenoid. I had a 12psi actuator that would only run 24.8psi.

which HKS is that? from what i understand they all do 36psi (250kpa)

Without the HKS EVC EasyWriter Software the thing is practically useless.

EVC 3 and 4 are that way. I havent messed with a 5 or 6 at higher boost than I can do on pump.
