updating my rom
My current/stock rom is 94170008. I've been told that I should just update to 94170015 as there's more to do in it. I searched around and can't really find a how to. Does anyone know how?
Once you've pulled the rom from your ECU, open it up in EcuFlash and get really familiar with all the maps you can edit. After that, grab a copy of the 94170015 (or one of the Tephra) roms and open it up in EcuFlash at the same time.
You're going to be spending a pile of time copying the relevant tables from your old rom to the new one, and some of the tables may be different sizes so they need to be manually modified to fit properly. It's boring and time-consuming and you have to be careful.
Once you've copied everything across, save a copy of the new ROM, flash it back to your ECU and give it a go.
Now, I realise that with such a short explanation there's plenty of opportunity to completely ***** it up, so you should be spending WAY more time reading than mucking with the ROM. I'm pretty new to it but I think I've probably spent more than 100 hours reading everything I can find, maybe 2 hours playing with my car's ROM, and about 10 hours logging.
I need to read more and log more.

^ Exactly as stated above...
I myself am very picky so I go through every single table and transfer from my current rom to a Tephra modded rom...even if they look the same...I still copy and paste everything...who knows maybe one little number will be different and maybe I missed it.

Another thing to watch is sometimes one table will be substantially different, but really its the same just different scaling is being used. Like above, i've tuned about 27 hours, but watched videos and read about how to use ecuflash for around 10x that long.
Oh, and the beta ecuflash has a feature called" compare Roms" and I couldn't live without it. I think it requires an updated OP2.0 though, and you can't use the old version once you upgrade or something like that.

I checked out the TephraMod and downloaded the 94170715 rom. I opened it up and it says 6MT. I have a 5MT. Is it safe to use and update to?
Also in the TephraMod, there's NLTS, valet mode, etc. Are these options already disabled by default or will I have to disable them myself?

I don't think the transmission will matter at all.
All the tephra options (NLTS etc) are in a single "Tephramod Options" block at the top of the list of maps you can edit in EcuFlash. Each one will be 0 to disable the option or 1 to enable.

One thing that will make things easier is the Big Map translator. Didn't see it mentioned above. It should be downloadable int the v7 thread. Makes copying stock maps really really easy.
