Evo IX with Evo 8 Rom ID?
Evo IX with Evo 8 Rom ID?
I picked up my IX as the third owner and all the modifications were performed by the original owner. I am a complete newb when it comes to EcuFlash but not to tuning.
I just tried to download the ROM from my car but had a few problems. First it was locked so I had to use ECU Unlocker. When I got it opened I got an error that Ecuflash could not recognize the ROM image using any of the current definitions. I kept clicking next to get the ROM ID and it comes up as 96940011 which is a stock Evo 8 ROM. I have the stock 96940011 .XML in the evo folder where definitions go, but I am still unable to open my ROM image I downloaded off my ECU.
When I click the blue file icon on the EcuFlash main page to open my downloaded Rom it shows up with a lock on my downloaded ROM I saved. After double clicking to open it up anyways, a window pops up telling me that EcuFlash can not recognize the Rom image and it only gives me the definitions for Evo 9's, 2 JDM 8's (wrong ROM ID) and Subaru's to choose from in the drop down window.
Is this something a tuner would do to keep people out? Or am I just missing something?
Thanks for any help.

Correct. Its the old strategy for keeping people out of your tune in their ECU. You need to change the ROM ID to the matching model and year, in this case 88590015 most likely.
We have much better ways of locking them these days.
