Why won't Ecuflash interface with my laptop?

I got my new tactrix 1.3 cable yesterday. I'm trying to get the ecu info using the latest version of Ecuflash, but it tells me that there's no vehicle interface (yes, the cable is plugged in, to the car and the laptop). It works fine with Evoscan though. I even tried installing an older version of ecuflash, but the same thing keeps happening. Also, Ecuflash won't let me look at my old flashes from about a year and a half ago. It'll let me look at the stock one, but none of the rest.

Seems to be a common problem recently. I am currently going through the same thing. I've put a charger on the battery while trying to read my current rom, uninstalled all ecuflash/evoscan programs, let the car warm up first. Still nothing. I can log with evoscan just fine, but it wont let me read the rom either.

Not sure if this might be the problem, but not all of the pins on the cable match up to what's pinned in the obd2 connector on the car. For example (x=open, P=pin):

tactrix cable: \ x P x P P x x P /
\ P P x x x P x P/

obd2 port: \ P x x P P x P x /
\ P x x x x P x P /

I used a friends tactrix cable when it was tuned last and it worked just fine.

I flashed my car over 100 times before the problem started.

Try using evoscan to read and write to the ecu.

Guess I've been out of the loop then. Back when I first got the car tuned in Oct 2010, you needed both Evoscan and Ecuflash, but now I guess you only need Evoscan to do everything. I couldn't get it to read from the ecu earlier, but I'll try it again. I always thought the cables were the same.

Anything after ECUflash 1.29 I cant read or write to the ecu. Luckily I was messing with evoscan one day and found you can read and write to the ecu. Its probably in the list of whats been updated but who reads that

So how do you go about "tuning" that hex file like you used to in ecuflash?

All you do is read and write with evoscan, you still use ecuflash to do all your editing. Just save as a hex.

When I read the file from the ecu using evoscan, it automatically saved it as a .hex file, but ecuflash won't open it. Does it matter what version of ecuflash it is?

It shouldnt matter. What does it say? I have the latest ecuflash and it opens it up just fine.

it says "unknown rom image, ecuflash could not recognize this rom image using any of the current definitions. This is with the most current version of ecuflash. As a matter of fact, it's says this with every hex file that I have.

Dont see why it would give you that error. Just opened a few hex files and downloaded some and they all worked fine. Try reinstalling ecuflash.

Got so fed up that I took my 1.3u apart tonight. Just removed plastic housing, still able to log. I have a capacitor that **** itself on the reflash side of the board. I know I voided any chance of help from tactrix with mine by taking it apart but maybe someone else may get some support.

evoscan is also telling me "xml for this rom not found, would you like to manually select it?"
