What first?

Guys,

I finally have the motor and trans back in. There is a long build thread or many small ones in the zillions of photos I have taken. I have done a bunch of things at once, but stock bottom end, with BalanceShaftDelete, and valve lapping, to round out the mechanical firsts for me. I polished the head, exhaust mani, and have installed the MAP rev 3 intake with 70mm throttle body.

That last one leads me to my questions. I am just about to get ready to fire this thing up after 5 months of being strewn all over my garage. The big changes that I know I need turning for are 272 Kelford CAMS from stock, FIC 1100s from stock, and the MAP intake from stock. Because of the intake and TB I am also doing the EGR delete.

Before I even fire up anything are there DO IT FIRST ECU edits I should make to get the things running first considering those mods/changes?

I know I have to log for injector scaling and latencies, (which is time consuming) but is that the first thing? Is there some preferred order to avoid fouling plugs, or causing other problems in trying to begin tuning for all those mechanical changes?

I use the JDMMAP sensor boost control setup, but otherwise it used to be very stockfish. Still have the stock turbo as well.

Here are some photos just to prove the work I have done on my own I guess and because those can be more interesting than a bunch of text, even though they are more drivetrain oriented the turning forum. I am sure I will need a lot of help from everyone on here in the next couple of months.

This is the method I tested. Engine and 6speed in as one unit. At an angle fits like a glove.

Block cleaned up

Head self polished.

Scale the injectors first. Start by finding some values here on the boards that are close enough for your injectors, and go from there. I wouldn't even start it without having done that.

The rest shouldn't be too bad; it might idle a little bit rough with the cams, but that's pretty easy to fix once you get to that point.

raptord, Thanks for jumping in on this one for me. I read in several older posts concerns about fouling plugs. Do you see any reason that is a concern as I am scaling and cruising?
I have some close numbers form a mrfred post on those injectors. He runs E85, but someone posted their values in that thread for 91 CA pee water.

If you have relatively close numbers to start with then I wouldn't be worried about fouling plugs. Trims won't be perfect until you log and adjust scalings but the ecu will be able to compensate until you do.

I read a few posts from l2r99gst and sophiesleeps about MAF scaling. I got a little lost on what this is conceptually and if it overlaps the setting of the fuel trims and latencies. It seemed to be modifying the MAF scaling, which would modify the fuel trim readings, but I may have confused that.

Is this information outdated. I do have the MAP rev3 intake, so I was trying to find out if I needed to make other ROM mods to accommodate the fact that I have the bigger IM and TB. All this to make sure I don't need to scale the injectors a second time because I forget some noob thing I should have known. (Like scaling the MAF)

I get from reading posts from partord, tephra, etc that since I have the stock MAF and tube, I shouldn't mess with MAF scaling. Is that correct? Or does the modified IM have an impact on the MAF scaling I need to accommodate for?
