Well my thought on confirming that it was real knock was because I could modulate it with adding timing and then removing it. It would consistently come and go. I did the same with boost. added 1 psi and it came, then took it away and the knock was gone. Is that not a logical approach?

If I use 100 octane: the theory would be that I still get the knock, but physics would dictate that it shouldn't be real because of the 100. So, if I have a tank of 100 and use those higher values I should see the knock and if I do it indicates something else is making the noise. Is that correct?

Damnit, I wish I had E85 down here!

When you use the 100 octane, put the timing to where it was when you experienced the knock. If it goes away, its real knock. If it's still there with a known higher octane fuel, its phantom.

It may be in fact real knock, as you said you can control it by taking the timing back out of it. I don't know much about tuning, but I'm pretty sure those cams are going to change where you peak torque is, so if your still running the same timing map. You make have too much timing at peak torque which is causing the knock.

Well you might be on to exactly what I am looking for. I have read in several posts about having to move around the 'curve' of peak torque when you install cams, as all VE changes and therefore everything is off. So you are probably right.

This is exactly where my experience ends and I am trying to move up. I didn't have to do that in my previous tunes, as I was just cleaning up someone else's tune, smoothing, and going to ECU based boost, 3 port and so on.

I am not totally certain how I would figure out where to move the peak torque around to, and based on what as I log in current situation. I know I likely need to expand the map scalings to allow for more detail. I likely need some examples of others base maps for this similar kind of setup.

With the changes you made VE has changed quite a bit within the motor, it will need to have a retune from low boost to high in order get the most out of the set up... Possibly with timing lower due to the cams in relation to Centerline, Lift, Duration and ramp rate characteristics.
