Bought a tuned EVO IX, now what?

So the original owner of the car had it tuned by a shop in PA. He left the dyno charts in the car for me to take a look at (330 whp for anyone who cares). The car has very basic mods - Injen hard pipes, K&N style intake w/Injen pipe, 3" TBE with a magnaflow muffler, and a Perrin 2 port boost controller set to 23.5 psi. I have tuned mine and my buddies DSMs with Link, and I used a Cobb AP to tune my old mazdaspeed3 so I am familiar with the concepts and application of tuning theory.

So, with that said, I've ordered a Tactrix 1.3u cable + EVOScan from the EVOScan website. I just read through about 50% of Merlin's guide (effing awesome guide BTW, thank you to the author!) and everything seems very familiar already. Anyway, I am fairly certain the car was tuned with a similar setup. Do I need to do anything special when I initially connect my laptop to the ECU with ECUFlash? I read about the immobilizer codes and all that, so I'll write those down and store them in a safe place.

The only reason I'm even asking this is the last thing I want to do is screw something up and lose the old tune. The car drives wonderfully in all conditions so whoever tuned this car did a great job IMO, and I'd like to just build off that tune as I do little things here and there. I apologize if this has been asked before, searching through the vast amounts of information that have build up around this place can be a bit daunting. Thanks for any tips or advice. As a last bit to throw out there, would I be wise to ditch the Perrin BCS in favor of the GM or Grimmspeed 3-port BCS?

Todd

I don't have any advice on tuning but you should defintely save the current tune on your laptop so you can always relash it back to it if neccesary.

My car with a very similar setup made 336whp/328wtq @25psi. so you have a pretty decent tune already.

Good luck!

No need to switch the Perrin BCS imo, they're all quite similar as far as I know.

First thing you should do is read the rom that's on the car currently and save it somewhere (maybe even save 2 copies in case you modify one and accidentally hit save rather than save-as). If Ecuflash doesn't recognize the rom, it's probably a Tephra v7 modded rom. If that's the case send me a PM and I'll email you my Tephra v7 xml definition, I already have ISCV and advanced fuel control tables defined in it so you won't need to go hunting around for those definitions in the future. I've also fixed a couple of bugs in it that caused EcuFlash 1.43 to crash when reaching a certain table.
