Several Idle Questions
Several Idle Questions
I have read countless threads over the past few hours but I have thus far been unable to resolve an issue I am having when trying to tune the idle of my Evo IX, and some input from the pros out there would be amazingly helpful in me not chasing my own tail.
Essentially I set out to lower the idle, it had been raised to almost 1300 to hide cam lope. I like cam lope and I would rather the car idle closer to what it did from the factory so I began by setting the bottom two values in Target Minimum Idle to 798. I also dialed in a little bit of ignition retard and mivec advance 0-1000RPM up to 40 load.
Symptom: Engine warm I start the car and it idles right at 800 with a decent bit of lope. After driving around however it stays pegged at 950-1000RPM. If I sit there at idle clutch out every 10 seconds the idle will fall almost as if the car is going to die then it catches itself and goes up to 1100 then back down to 950/1000.
So I thought BISS screw.....put it in SAS mode and car was barely running so I opened the BISS screw until the car idled at 750RPM.
At any point if I turn the car off and back on the idle will drop down to a normal lopey 800RPM. Once I rev/move the car it's stuck at 950-1000. Did I overlook anything or should I start hunting for vacuum leaks (e.g. hoses, throttle body shaft seals, biss screw o-ring) or other possible issues (cam sensor, skipped timing belt; i throw code P0011 every now and then for intake cam too advanced).
Thanks all,
