From what I understand, cam lope is not something to be desired.

I had the lope on Kelford 272's and afterwards a tune really smoothed my idle back out. I think the lope throws off your idle fuel trims, however I could be wrong.

It's all in the tune, do you have a tactrix cable?
Idle timing, idle rpm and other variables will affect this. This is tunable.

You can add mivec if you have it and lower your timing down to like 4-6 degrees.

Loping definitely makes maf tuning a pita. He'll it even made sd tuning for me a pita

I'm working with him by private messages. He has no MIVEC. He tried 5* idle, 700rpm idle. No lope. We're now working on idling open loop at 15.7 AFR. I'll update.

I would start with HKS cams suck not much better then stock. That basically it. Tune has a bit to play with it too.

Doesn't nothing really "bad" about the lopping, it's really up to whether the driver wants some or not. I don't see why it'd affect fuel trims.

The only "negative" I can think of is that the car will be a bit rougher when coasting along in first gear at idle in heavy traffic.

Lumpy idle would have to do with the lift on the cams. HKS cams have very very low lift which is why they really aren't desired for performance. If you lean out the idle some I am sure it will get there. When I got my car it had hks 272s in it and I thought it had stock cams. Changed to GSC s2 cams and with a little leaner idle lumps good now.

Surely the HKS are not as agressive as the GSCs but there is many VIII out there that have the HKS 272 loping. We'll start by getting his to lope like on other cars.
I agree that if he wants more he has to consider that theses cams won't go further.

Yeah usually lean idle, or they have the 10.8 lift instead of the 10.2 lift.
