I've been on this tune for a few days and I can't seem to find a happy point. I've been tuning for a few years so the theory isn't new to me. This particular car is giving me fits.

26psi on pump, 31 psi on e85

Rom: Tephra v7 88590715

Weather: Sunny and 70 yesterday, Scattered rain and 65 today. Same issues both days.

I started on pump gas and had similar issues, but got the tune fairly close to what I wanted so I moved on to e85. Im getting inconsistent timing pulls which is making the tune very difficult. Peak torque is consistently between 3700-4000 on VD. Im getting roughly 2-3* timing at this point. Roughly around 4600-4700 RPM I get some sort of knock count nearly every pull. I've had timing as low as 0* and as high as 4*. Knock counts will be 2 one pull, 4 the next, and 1 the following. All with the same tune. When I finally get a clear pull and think I have it, I do another to confirm and its back again. Occasionally it will get 1 or 2 counts of knock at lower RPMs and higher RPMS. I'll adjust timing in these areas, do a pull and it will seem fine. Do another and theres 4 counts of knock from 3k all the way to 5k.

While looking over the logs more, I noticed sometimes load will drop in the middle of the pull to under 100, then come back. The pull in timing seems to happen at the same time, most of the time. I noticed the MAF hz is maxed out by this point. I went into the 2 byte load and changed it from 1.2 to 1.3. Nothing different. Up to 1.4. Nothing.

I went into to edit the MAF scaling table to uint8 like some have suggested. No change.

Im running out of time and ideas to get this car done for the shootout. I've looked the car over and don't see anything that could be rattling and making the knock sensor go crazy at that RPM. I appreciate any input. I know some of you have had similar problems but don't see much for solutions. Maybe Im just completely missing something simple.

Here's a few logs on e85 and my timing map so you can see the inconsistencies. The green square is where I usually get the most consistent knock. All 4 are withing a few minutes of eachother. The last 2 are after lowering timing a degree in the previous knock areas.

 

Do you have lean spool enabled or disabled?
I think your AFR might be causing the knock counts, regardless of timing values, 12s could be high at such high load (300).
try & enrich AFR to 11.6-11.7 @ 4500rpm & to 11.2-11.3 by red line.

 

I have lean spool turned off. The tune started richer and it was still pulling timing. Ive been pulling the plugs to check for detonation and they look great. Ill try to add fuel.

 

Let me add, the plugs looking good is what is leading me to believe its not real knock. Seems like something else is going on.

 

Ill just say better log res would be nice.

 

I forgot to mention the balance shafts are removed as well. I know it will be noisier so I did raise the knock sensitivity threshold a little but maybe it needs more. I pulled the e85 out and am going to go over the pump tune again today to see if the problem is something that only became more noticeable on e85 or if its consistent in that RPM band. I know the exhaust pipe came close to the tcase so I I'll double check that.

Really my main concern is why the load counts drop while in boost for a few hundred RPM and come back which seems to be related to when the timing is pulled. This leads me to believe its false knock.

 

Ps your log resolution sucks! Are you logging data to screen?

 

Thats honestly something Ive never changed. I opened the logger section and 3 boxes are checked. Logger superspeed, Log data to file, and log date to screen.

 

Uncheck data to screen and knock down your logged items as much as possible.

Also your 1 byte matches in evoscan to your rom right?

Timing log matches map til knock or no?

 

Get rid of airflow idc ipw boost etc

Zero out ign trim vs iat FAA bit 11 off get down to the basics

 

Ill do the changes tonight. They seem pretty close but not always spot on. On pump I was seeing the same drop in load. I was hitting around 300 load. 26 psi. I bumped it to 31 on e85. Load goes over 300 but not to 320 range where i expect it to. With the drop in load through the pull i cant ever tell if it is hitting 320+. Im going to drop my 2byte load back to 1.2 since it didnt seem to help.

 

Im logging so much to watch the other parameters to find the possible fault.

 

Edited ^^^ check those things maybe log timing map see if it jumps around

You just need to watch for one thing at a time too much data and res drops below usable limit

 

To sum it up 90% chance you will be adjusting background noise multiplier if you find the load issue. To me it seems like your rom and evoscan aren't matching but you've verified that they match conversion factors

Built motors tend to be noisier

 

Like i said, on pump at 26 psi I see 300 load, but on e85 at 31 i see 300 load. Makes no sense but the load seems to match. Im going to double check later today
