Idle Issue (Evo8 Ecu in 2g GSX)
Idle Issue (Evo8 Ecu in 2g GSX)
As the title suggests, I have an Evo8 ECU in my 1999 2g Eclipse GSX. I'm running a Speed Density setup on e85, and the car has been running fairly well for the last year or so. There are a few issues with the idle (one of which just started a few days ago), so I'd like to see if there are any EcuFlash gurus out there that can point me in the right direction. First, a quick overview of the relevant parts of my setup:
'99 Eclipse GSX 5spd
Holset HX40 Turbo
1150cc injectors
255 Wally fuel pump
91/e85 w/ alt maps (have been running a 50/50 mix for the past few months)
Stock ignition system
6-bolt motor (stock rebuild)
So, there are essentially two issues I'm having. This first one I've had for a while, but just got worse over the past few days. When I start my car after sitting all night, the car will start with the RPMs around 1500 or so for about 3 seconds, then the RPMs will rise to about 2,000-2,200 RPM for a minute or two while the engine warms up. That is a bit annoying, but now (as of a few days ago) the RPMs will jump up to 3,000 and stay there for a few minutes until the engine warms up. So that's the first idle issue.
The second idle issue started just a few days ago, seemingly out of nowhere. Let's say I'm cruising at 40mph in 3rd gear at around 2,500RPM, and then i have to stop for a stop light. As soon as I take the car out of gear, the RPMs drop down to 1,000 (where I believe my target idle RPM is set for in EcuFlash), but then oscillates between 1,000 and 1,500 RPM back and forth about every second or so. It's like someone is flipping a switch - on/off on/off. It goes right to 1,000, then immediately right to 1,500...back and forth. It will keep doing this nonstop as long as I'm going faster than about 15mph. As soon as I go slower than 15mph, it will settle somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 and will stay there at a standstill. Before a few days ago, this never happened...idle was right around 1,000 at a standstill and on decel.
I do realize that the suddenness of the second issue would suggest some type of mechanical issue. I did change my power steering reservoir and put new fluid in it a few days ago, but other than that I haven't touched anything. The car still runs great in all on-throttle scenarios. Idle is the only problem.
Any suggestions? My ROM is attached for reference. Unfortunately, I'm not currently able to provide a log due to no longer having a PC (Mac only). Thanks in advance for the help.
