Using a 1.3R to flash

Hey guys I recently picked up a 1.3r cable secondhand for cheap. And I just wanted to know how you guys use it to flash? Cause I've read that there's issues doing so with the 1.3R and that the 1.3U is the one to buy. Well is too late now and I just need some help in getting around this! Thanks!

It flashes fine with Evoscan. It won't work with ecuflash, that's all.

Evoscan takes FOREVER to flash and ecuflash takes like 20 seconds to flash, if that. I have a 1.3r and all I did was use an older version of ecuflash to flash. I want to say its version 1.29, then you can make changes to your Rom with version 1.44. I eventually got sick of going back and forth and bought an OP2.0 also. But ya, if you want to use the 1.3r with ecuflash just download the older version 1.29 to flash and 1.44 to make Rom changes.

Yeah, $25 is pennies for the value it has for your car .

I can confirm that the 1.3R cable works with older Ecuflash, as I have an R cable. I think the last version without the cable ID stuff added to it was 1.34.

Anything newer then 1.29 will not work with a R cable. Been there done that.

Evoscan is a datalogging program that has a freebie read/write function built in (for evo 8/9 only). ECUFlash is a read/write/ROM editing program.

To use the R, you do all your work in ECUFlash, save it as a hex file, and then flash it to the ecu with Evoscan.

Really, that's interesting. Yeah I'm not sure why you were able to use a newer version but my R cable wouldn't work with anything newer then 1.29. I did buy the R cable recently (6 months ago) so maybe if yours is a little older they could have changed the firmware in the end of the plug or something.

http://www.evoscan.com/free-ecu-rom-downloads

This has all the old versions of ecuflash(scroll all the way to the bottom of the page). I've only been able to get 1.29a to flash with a R cable but broke4speed says 1.34 worked for him. For me though again nothing later then 1.29a worked.....

I am willing to accept I was wrong, haha. I haven't had the time to check again, so stick with 1.29a. It's a definite solution.
