Uncontrollable leanout between 2-3k on WOT
Uncontrollable leanout between 2-3k on WOT
Hey guys,
Got an interesting situation that i've come across this twice now on both an Evo 8 and Evo 9.
Same symptoms on both cars. Going WOT at ~2k it leans out from ~14.7 to ~17-18 and starts bucking its head off due to the lean condition.
Ease on the throttle at 3k and go WOT at 3.5k and it pulls clean and hard at ~11.6 to cutout.
Evo 8 was on MAF, 1450 FIC injectors.
Evo 9 is on SD, id2000 injectors.
Injectors are dialed in correctly, trims at less than 2%.
I can sort of work around it by dumping the fuel map into the 8's between 2-3k as boost ramps up but thats only masking it and it doens't fit it 100% of the time.
Wondering if a dodgy cam sensor can be to blame?
Here is the only similar thread I can find, on a few Evo X's.

Sorted.
Workshop that built motor/installed cams bolted the camshaft positioning sensor 180* out of phase.
Seems between 2-3k rpm it causes timing to become erratic and injector firing to go bananas.
Above 3k and below 2k there is no issue other than slight jerky-ness of throttle.
