InternalID 9417008 Back After Long Absence

**Posted this in General and got no replies. Since I used ECUFlash, thought I'd try this sub-forum. If it's bad etiquette, mods, please delete.**

It's been YEARS since I've looked in here.

I got a WORKS Brainworks 2 flash in '4, I think. Then I got a Dynoflash road tune in late '05 after upgrading cams and a WR8 turbo. Then, after a few more mods enlisted Mellon's help in a re-tune in '08. Chris was able to get some driveability back but the car's still very rough in a number of ways. There were 'Tephra' mods that could take the otherwise limited 9417008 InternalID up to 94170015 but we couldn't make it work at the time. Neither WORKS nor Al from Dynoflash (who didn't respond at all) could send me a copy of my original/previoius ROM. I've been driving the car on a limited basis ever since, mostly autocross but again, limited.

It's time to reboot this thing and get it with real road (parking lot) manners as well as the ability to scream the way it already does. I'm wrapping up my other car project shortly (I hope) and will be getting ready to get this Evo where I've wanted it for some time. Given that, I'm looking for some input/advice.

1. I have Evoscan and ECUFlash along with the appropriate cables. I'm using a laptop. Is there a good dash-installable option that really works well or am I better off with a laptop? The only aftermarket gauge I have is a boost gauge so I do like the idea of something that displays gauges like the EvoDroid option.

2. Is there a way to get what were Tephra mods, etc. working on my InternalID 9417008? Dynoflash really hacked up my ECU but Mellon brought it back quite a bit. It's fairly clear Dynoflash hacked into places that the tuning we did w/o Tephra mods, etc. back in '08 couldn't touch. So I'm looking for a good platform or framework with which to begin. I just know Dynoflash hacked up a LOT of the ROM we couldn't touch back in '08.

From there I'll have a ton of other questions and will use SEARCH, etc. I just wanted to try for a clean starting point if someone can point me to one without having to go through hundreds of pages of threads, etc., etc.

Thanks!

Download the TephraMod v7 ROM packages. Look for the 03 USDM rom replacements typcailly 94XXXXXX....
Then follow the TephraMod v7 setup guide in the Ecuflash section for that rom ID. IIRC 94170015 or 14 should work

The older Roms were 256 K ( 03-05 VIII ) and the newer ones ( 06- 07 IX ) were 512 K IIRC. I dont think the bigger roms will work on the old ECU with limited memory space.

Anyways, you can use the big map translators to translate the original 94170015 small timing and fuel maps to the larger ones in the TephraMod v7 Rom.

One benefit is the TephraMod v7 has the gear dependent boost and wgdc tables. They can be configured to use load or psi settings. Again read the TephraMod v7 setup instructions in the Ecuflash section. It also has launch tables and alternate maps in case of track fuel or meth/ E85

I hope you like the modern ways !!!!

Thanks, I'll start there! She's been extremely difficult to drive in a tame fashion on streets, parking lots, neighborhoods, etc. since Dynoflash in '05.

I'll get my other car project wrapped up and get on the Evo again. Time to start my homework, I guess.

Oh, and someone said something about 'newer fuel injector technology' while disparaging my 880s. Can anyone speak to that?

Thanks!

Correct Tephra Mod v7 would be 94170715 or 94170714

In a nutshell.....huge changes to the maps, addition of launch maps, big maps ( more rows and columns for finer tuning ) valet maps so the valet boy cant rod your ride, addition of variable boost in each individual gear, enabling variable flashing of check engine light on mild or severe knock, multiple maps switchable on the fly...enable or disable readiness checks for emissions . There is lots lots more ...basically unused chunks of the rom have been taken over and new code written to enable those features just listed.

Read the TephraMod v7 thread in the EcuFlash directory and then the How to setup your TephraMod v7 ROM thread.

Welcome to the twentieth century LOL

BTW you will want to upgrade to the latest Ecuflash ( 1.44 ) and also Evoscan 2.9. Ecuflash is free $25 for the Evoscan. run them under win 7. And just to tantalize you, evoscan does do live Map tracing from the logs when you are tuning so you know what ign and AFr cells youe are hitting AND you can write to the ROM immediately. ;-) Not to mention resetting DTC's and bleeding the ACd pump properly on a clutch install.

Go for it

Everyone starts here with Merlins tuning guides:

that should keep you busy having fun and learning for a couple of months at least..

you can ask any questions here:

Thank you both! My biggest concern is that, since the OEM original ID was 9417008, that I have very limited memory space to deal with and the Tephra mods couldn't load successfully. I look forward to getting hip-deep in it in a couple more weeks.

Thanks again!

You wont have an issue if you load the correct TephraMod v7 fro your ROM ID

Also /\/\ that is Hamish who developed the Evoscan software. Great guy to know just in case you have issues logging....( you should not though )

Thought so. Seems like affirmation on the ROM IDs you mentioned. Thanks again!
