Fuel Pressure Solenoid

I've read conflicting views on the function of the fuel pressure solenoid. I know someone here is right but I'm not sure who. The general consensus seems to be bypassing it is perfectly safe, if not best practice.

I've read:
  • It helps to control cold start
  • It helps to control warm start
  • It can affect pressure under driving conditions (possibly because it's incorrectly venting to atmosphere as a result of an incorrect condition)

Which of these is true/false/possible?

All true.

It is best left connected/wired as Mitsi intended.

Really? The only thing I've seen in the code is that the solenoid isolates the FPR from the manifold reference during startup. I guess I'll have to look to see it does something else.
