Did you download the appropriate adapter?

The Tactrix site states a re-flash adapter is needed for Evo 9's

For Mitsubishi, you'll need the adapter for most pre CAN vehicles which include the 5-9 Evo.
Choose the adapter you need from the 'Reflash Adapters' drop down list on the right side of this page.
I already have the Re-flash Adapter. it's plugged in next to the OBD II. Without it, you wouldn't even get a read or anything.

Unfortunately even with the ECU-Unlocker in the background, nothing happens when I attempt to read from it. Just the same error.

So just checking on this...Been awhile since I messed with this but I remember simple stuff could hose you...Lol

Make sure you are clicking the ok button than turning the key on. If you have the key on before you click the ok button you will get an error.

I'm a bit confused? Are you saying I need to click the "OK" button on ECU-Flash to read, THEN AFTER, turn the key to the ON position quickly? This seems a bit weird. Maybe I'm not understanding correctly.

Ecuflash open ..... press read..... directions say with key in off position turn ignition to on ...usually wait 10 secs then press Ok.

This is a common issue with Ecuflash and Evos V, VI you have to press read / write wait for the OK popup window turn your key quickly to ON position and hit OK that works for me in a couple of EVO's with read / write issues. Just give a try

Same deal, unfortunately. It gives me the error even when the key is set to "OFF".

what kind of cable are you using? Openport 1.3x 2.0 etc?

Cables go bad, I've had to replace my broken evoscan 1.3u and repair my openport 2.0.

Try the following procedure:

Start the engine, let it run for about 5 seconds before pressing the read Button and the OK Button. The engine should be switched of by itself then and the read starts. IF that doesnt work, check that the Read Write Pin in the white connector ( Car Harness side ) is in the right position. Some Tuners changing the pin position for Read write inhibit, but Logging is working this way. ( matching the position of the female pin in the Reflash Tactrix adapter )

Do you have the right ECU selected in the drop down?

If you have the 03-05 selected you get a similar error.

Sorry for no response. Had to take a break from the Evo for a few days. Got pretty frustrated.

IF that doesnt work, check that the Read Write Pin in the white connector ( Car Harness side ) is in the right position. Some Tuners changing the pin position for Read write inhibit, but Logging is working this way. ( matching the position of the female pin in the Reflash Tactrix adapter )
Do you have a diagram of the pin positions? By just taking a look at it, it looks like it's never been altered.

Do you have the right ECU selected in the drop down?

If you have the 03-05 selected you get a similar error.
Yeah. Correct ECU has been selected this whole time.
