Flashing Back to Stock Immobilizer Issue

Hey Guys,

So I put all my oem parts on for California smog after having my car tuned by a shop a while ago. I don’t have my actual original ROM, so I saved my tuned ROM and flashed my ECU back to the generic stock ROM (88590015). The car cranks but does not start. I figured it’s an immobilizer issue, so I went into my tuned ROM, grabbed the immobilizer code, and put that code into the stock ROM, but the car still doesn’t want to start. I flashed the ECU back to my tuned ROM and the car starts right up (granted it then idles like **** and turns off due to the stock parts being on). Tried the stock ROM again and crank but no start, I verified that the immobilizer code matches on both ROMs. i input the immobilizer code by typing in “0x” followed by my code, is that correct?

anything else i should look at beside the immobilizer code in the ROM?

i went to the Mitsubishi dealership today and asked if they would be able to flash my ecu back to stock and they stated that it’s not that simple and I’d need to buy a new ECU, lol

edit: this is on an evo IX MR

There are a couple parts to it, there is whats labeled in the open source xml's as the immobilizer hex and the immobilizer. They both need to be set properly.

How do I go about setting the hex? And wouldn’t modifying the hex spit out a different checksum? That’s the whole issue I’m having with California smog and why I attempted to flash back to stock. If I have a different checksum they will flag me to the BAR

The hex needs to be correct for your model year, so not having it set right in the first place would be bad. If its not already part of your xml then you will need to add it.

Is the immobilizer in the modified rom enabled or disabled? If it’s enabled, we know the immobilizer code is correct. If it’s disabled, the immobilizer code in that rom may be incorrect.

ok, so the immobilizer was disabled in the tuned ROM, that explains alot.

my next question is, would disabling the immobilizer on the stock ROM cause it to spit out a different checksum / CVN number? california smog purposes

Yes it will. Any change from the stock settings will change the CVN for your model year. CVN is recomputed everytime you flash.
I pulled a stock 2006 IX MR CA 88590015 ROM for ya, and it shows an immob code of 5A01. No guarantee this is right for your VIN but worth a try.

In for result because I'm curious. I was also wondering about putting a stock ROM, but then having to mod it to add the right immobilizer hex. Seems you would need the exact stock ROM...?
Man, I'm glad I'm done with the CA bull****

it won’t let me PM you.

also to update this thread, I ended up having to take my car to a competent dealership and they reflashed my ecu and re-vinned it. Passed smog completely OEM and now all the off-road only parts are back on... for off road only!

mm I thought that only mattered if it was 08+

I just passed my smog normally 2 weeks ago in OC by flashing back my stockish 88590016 ROM with all the changes for the OMNI 4 bar map & WG settings for the grimmspeed ebcs. I still left a bunch of mods on it & my evap monitor wasnt even ready (found out evap doesnt matter in CA) because my fuel temp sensor is on the fritz & im too lazy to drop the tank in this heat. All the other important monitors were passing naturally though.

I believe as long as your stock rom is correct (88590015 or 88590016), reports all the important monitors as passing and you have a cool smog guy for the visual, itll be fine.

If you don't get a REF notice in the next two weeks, you may good to go.
