I've had 25 knock on a Evo 4G and I for sure heard it.

Which injectors and any other new mods added for this log?
I don't recall hearing anything. The injectors are PTE 1000cc and it has a 20g-9-5 and HKS 264's. It had a 35r but it was swapped out.

Even knock sum of around 4 and above is audible. I suppose it depends on how trained your ear is to listening for it. 36 should sound like the motor swallowed a bag of marbles!

Everytime I've left the battery off overnight, next day on the first start cycle the ecu will do a 36 count knock sum at cruise. It never does it again, unless I disconnect the battery again overnight.

The battery was disconnected for maybe 2-5 min before the log was taken. Maybe it had the same effect?

bump

today i logged my car with a friend of mine... logged from the time i pulled off the driveway until we came back, that was around 30 miles...

Cruise, partial throttle, partial throttle boosting, 2nd gear wots, 3rd gear wots, 4th gear wots, even 5th gear wot from 2500 until 5500rpm....

in that log we noticed cruise knock too... knocksums over 30 between 2700-3500 but not all the time...

The car on every pull would see 0, in some occasions 1-2, then 0. At wot very happy. No knock whasoever

Sometimes while cruising we would see 000000040000000 but nothing else...

The strangest was under partial throttle while cruising and always between 2700-3500rpm.... massive knock but after passing that point or pressing the throttle a litle bit more 0s.... strange...

Maybe it is drivetrain noise that at that particular rpm the car "knocks".... I have to think and retest but i think the highest knocksums were while turning, thus making me believe that its transmission, vibration, suspension issue...

the car has built tranny, solid front mount (ams lightweight support), ingalls stiffy on the upper mount, and even a BR moustache bar, which when lifting off the gas in 5th gear you can feel/hear almost every rotation of the rear diff.... lol...

i will not disconnect the battery and try a second log round...

Just out of curiosity, do you have lean spool enabled ?. I have seen that cause high knock counts at partial throttle and around the same RPM range.

My car is knock free during cruise except when crossing through 2500-3000 rpm at loads between 70 and 80. When crossing that range, the car knocks almost every time, but usually only a few knock counts (no more than 3, usually 1 or 2). Doesn't matter how much timing I pull out. It always does it. Happens for gasoline and E85.

yeah the car is very prone to knocksum (I say knocksum because we are not sure if its really knock) at 2500rpm and 70-90 loads...

more timing makes its more prone, less timing reduces the occurrence of knocksum but does not eliminate it completely...

In the limited, 5 or so years i have been working on cars i have noticed that every motor has a certain rpm range where the motor has a "noisy resonance" of operation - for lack of a better term. This 2500-3000 at that load may just be that noisy resonance for the 4g63. My SR20 is more noisy at 3000-3500. Maybe this just causes phantom knock.

Same situation here. But mine is more sporadic, than consistent. Occasionally it trips to 4 or 5. But vanishes. Its just a little spike just below boost. I've played with fuel and timing in that area and it seems to have no effect better or worse, or even change the frequency at which it occurs. So I just ignore it.

Never had a problem with knock during cruise. Or counts that high... ever. And she's not without her rattles or shakes these days.
