has it been sitting for a while? If the battery is below a certain voltage it wont let you read/write to the ecu.

I have this problem all the time, I cant flash or read until I drive the car some.....my 3 year old oem battery is becoming weak

battery is fine, it keeps throwing "error transmitting kernel"

Is your ECU Locked? Use the Ecu unlocker from Aktivematrix.com. If you have been tuned by someone else before they could have locked the ecu/rom. Just a thought.

Try reading the rom with the car running, it will shut the car down and then proceed to try and pull the rom. All the finicky ones that do what you describing have been solved using that method.
