Really weird things happening after ECU swap (reflashed same ROM)

Hi.

I had to replace my ECU in my AUDM Evo 8 because the ignition circuit on it screwed up and was only firing 1 coil.

I sourced a JDM EVO 8 ECU and reflashed the same ROM file I downloaded off my old ECU (Custom ECU Flash tune on 96530006 "Universal EVO 8" ROM).

My car now runs on 4 cylinders however it is seriously lacking power, when I accelerate the revs climb extremely slowly in any gear but 1st, the car feels like there is a potato stuck in the exhaust pipe.

I haven't changed anything in the engine, everything is the same. I've tried flashing a stock 9653006 ROM but the car acts exactly the same.

Two strange things that I've noticed are that the Engine light stays on with but there are no Trouble Codes. Also, the IC spray button doesn't illuminate the icon on the dash (doesn't work).

I'm begining to suspect that this JDM ECU is somehow different to my AUDM ECU or that it is faulty, can anyone please shed some light on this?

Are you sure it was a JDM8 ECU?
JDM8's have a 3-plug ECU whereas the ADM8's have a 4-plug like JDM7, USDM8 etc.

Thanks for the quick reply.

It has same amount of plugs, the numbers on it are different except for the "E6T34895 H" which is the same (this is located just under the main number on the ECU).

Edit: Are you suggesting that this may be a JDM 7 ECU? I tested with one of those yesterday and it didn't fire up at all (presumably becuase the injector pins are different).

I've saved the original ROM file from the new ECU I got however I am unable to read it. Perhaps if I figure out how to read the ROM I can find out what car it came from (Evo 7/9?)

Wow. I just found the ROM ID for the ROM that was on this, turns out that I have a factory Lancer OZ ECU.

This is some mind boggling ****, this ****er tried to pass this off as an EVO 8 ECU. I can't believe the car was actually driveable with it, hopefully I haven't done any damage to the engine (explains why the car was running like a Lancer LOL)

Lol....unbelievable, release the hounds!!!

Was doubting myself thinking it was too late at night when you said you plugged a JDM 8 ECU into an ADM loom.

FYI
3-plug = Evo 9 (all models), JDM Evo 8 (both GSR/MR)
4-plug = JDM Evo 7, ADM/UKDM Evo 8 (UK is FQ260), USDM Evo 8

Evo 5/6/TME = 4-plug ECU in same black plastic case, however different CPU, 128k rom size etc.

if i recall the only diff is swapping a pin on ours vs an evo ecu as we can run evo roms on ours just fine. Check 02-07 forums i think senate posted it. Car won't start without the pin swap.
