Universal ROM for Evo X

So the search didn't yield anything when I checked but I successfully ran a 2010MR (55580005) with a 2011MR (56900007) ROM yesterday. I made a pull put down 284whp, flipped back to the 2010 and backed it up with a 287 and 285. Nothing appeared to operate any differently. NO Cel's, SST worked the same, dash worked the same, etc.

So unless I missed the thread, what other ones swap, what work has been done to see if they all operate the same, as anyone looking into it?

Aaron

I will keep this updated as others want to add to it if anyone else wants to test.

I was thinking tumbleweeds!

I've messed around with ROM code a bit, but I'm nowhere near at the level of expertise that would make my input meaningful... not when it comes to ROM-swapping.

This is very interesting... I read some information tephra spoke about this the other day when search for a few things I was brushing up on.

I hope this brings some more options since 2011/12 don't have as much support as earlier ROMS such as the case with Tephramod v1 so far. Also 11's and above have that PITA throttle closing issue if you touch the brakes.

So if i were to try and flash my 2011 with a 2010 ROM whats the worst that can happen? Like will I get an error message when I try and write to the ecu with a 2010 ROM or would it just brick the ECU.

Yeah, brake boosting was going to be one of the first things I brought up. Also - no cruise above 80 has been reported on some of the newer cars.

You aren't able to flash a very important part of the ROM (but there is a way around it). It would probably brick it but there is more detailed information in a couple of other threads here.

As long as the first few "chunks" of the rom is the same, you can flash it to the same car.

EcuFlash doesn't actually allow you to flash the entire rom to a car. But if the first few "chunks" are identical, it skips them.

You can flash any rom that you want to a car if you are willing to bench it.

Not that many roms are compatible with each other, and it is really not worth the time to try to identify which ones are.

I think it is very important, but I used to spend alot of time making duplicate basemaps till someone figured out that the 03-05 could all use the 94170015. I think this is actually really a cool deal for tuners.

UPDATE-

I confirmed without a shadow of a doubt that the 2010 and 2011 GSR interchange stock ROMs. You can backdate the 2011 to a 2010. I didnt doublecheck the Tephra ROM to make sure it worked both ways but I have no doubt it would work.

I also tested a 2012MR trying to backdate the ROMs as well. While I am not sure on 2012 interchangability as it is (GSR or MR) I can say that 2011 and 2010 didnt load. It started to load, failed, ran the fans like it had bricked but I was able to reflash to the 2012 with no issues.

I also have a 2012 GSR here for either a build or cylinder head upgrade so I can test it to see if we can backdate.

So I don't have to bench the ECU or anything. Just load a 2010 Stock Rom onto my 2011 and it will work just fine?

Correct. I simply flashed it in the car directly to the ECU from my lappy.

That can be really handy actually since it means I can flash down my 2011 MR (56900009) to a 2010 MR (55580106) and potentially get working TephraXMod V1 going!

I might not be able to test it until after the shootout as I'm pressed for time with last minute preperations.

Potentially yes. I havent verified I can do the same on the MR yet other than finding out the 2012 MR WONT cross backwards. I did go forward from 2010 to 2011 as I outlined in the first post so it would seem to work. Need to verify with a non-tephra ROM first.

So I was able to flash my 2011 over to 2010 Rom 55570106. however , when I started the car it started idling around 2500rpm. Anyone else try it and have this problem.

Try a non-tephra ROM first and see if that is the issue. Does it do everything else correctly?
