problem loading rom into evoscan

problem loading rom into evoscan
I received a tune last night and I cannot seem to get it to load into evoscan or ecuflash. The file is labeled as a .HEX however it says I need an XML file, do I want to choose my own?
I was under the assumption that I just needed to load evoscan, then write the ROM to my computer, then start my car.
I have a 2005 evo8 gsr, using the tactrix 2.0 cable.
The first error I got in evoscan was that a DLL file, FTD2xx.dll had a issue, I added it to the system32 and sysWOW64, and now I get the error that the usb cable is not connected or in use.
Anyone experienced this? I have looked but not concrete answer.
