Remote ACD resivoir relocation kit/ COLD AIR INTAKE 05+

I figured I would throw this out there since I don't see myself finishing this product with anyone any time soon, and I would rather just be able to buy it from somewhere due to my lack of time to put into this project.

Concept: The idea behind this is to relocate the ACD resivoir to a different location allowing clearence to fit a 3 inch pipe down into the driver side of the front air dam. Plans were to use this kit with a dejon tool/ PPI style intake hard pipe kit.

Hardware: I was going to have a guy at work make me a replacement bracket for the ACD in solidworks and make theese parts t work after hours, but he is being a dick. It would consist of a bracket for the pump without the top brace for bolting the resivoir to. Next would be a set of rubber hoses (coolant hose) with the correct bends to accomidate the new location (behind the headlight most likely). I was also planning on tig'ing a 4 1/2 to 3 inch custom reducer to a vibrant or custom MAF adapter, bead rolled at the end with a coupler to a 3 inch pipe made to run to a filter directly beside the ACD pump.

Benifits: MUCH cooler AIT resulting in increased HP and more consistancy of the car making good power (think sitting at the track for 20 minutes waiting to run and getting 165* AIT that only goes down to 115 by the end of the pass) I think a 15whp increase would be seen fairly easily in my case.

Is there anyone here willing to try? I know we have some great fabricators. I just dont have the time or rescources to do this right now..This can be done with cutting the factory ACD support off for the resivoir but I would rather not do that on my car..

Let me know what you guys think!

It's a great idea, but why not just relocate the pump into the trunk of the car? If you moved it all the way back there then there would be constant temperature drop within the engine bay and also allowing for more space for cooling ducts to utilize. I had the same idea as well; relocating the ACD pump to the trunk of the car entirely.

That would certainly work as well so long as all the wiring and hydraulics are routed properly and protected. Easy cold air intake!

I will most likely be doing this in the next month or two on my rally car. FWIW, the overseas versions of the Evo have the ACD pump located in the trunk on the driver's side, but the pump/reservoir look different. One of the local rally guys has a Group-N Evo VII RS, so I've been able to peek in on how his car is setup.

Personally, I don't like the idea of a part that expensive hanging out off the front of the car just waiting to get pounded by a rock, or bashed in during a 5mph impact.

If there's interest, I can try to figure out what it would cost to replicate what I end up with.

That would be awesome if you could Dave! I really want to get this done, and since the pump is located in the trunk from the factory then I'm sure it shouldn't be too difficult to replicate.

I haven't had any time to work/look into this yet. I'm hoping to have time in April, so if I don't post back up, please remind me.

Alright sounds good!

From what I've seen in many pictures of EDM and JDM evo's it seems as though the reservoir is mounted in the trunk on the left side and then the pump is mounted under the car next to the Evap canister.

Still no updates to report. Over the last few weeks, I thought I had wiring issues which led me to swear off wiring modifications...but I still think this is a worthwile mod.

After speaking with ACP, it looks like if I move the pump, I'll probably move it to somewhere inside the car like the rally pros do, making my "kit" not very useful for non-race cars.

Theres a picture somewhere on an AMS thread. They relocated the pump near the rear differential. It was on a blue Evo. I'll see if I can look it up again.

Yep, I saw the car in Chicago. Its in the "blue demon" build thread. For rallying, having the part down low and on the outside of the car isnt the best idea, but on a no expense spared road race build, getting the weight low and to the back is where its at.

I wouldn't mind relocating it inside the car, at least the pump will be protected and won't be shot with road debris.

My car is mostly weekend cruising and 1/4 mile action. I wanted to run the APS cold air intake on my Evo IX. Just to be a bit different

I been talking to my friend about it and we're gonna take some measurements of the lines/fittings.
