Nurburgring June 28
Nurburgring June 28
This is what I have been waiting for all year. I was hoping for all of us to go to the ‘Ring 28 June (Sunday). More information is here:
http://www.nuerburgring.de/home.324.0.html and here:
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/
This is not a race, more of a get-together and introduce newbies to the track and have more experienced track guys show the lines. I would suggest you get any modifications to your car done now, maintenance of cars now. Each lap is 20 euros and probably the best 20 euros you will ever spend. Please chime in if you are interested. We will meet at ATU Kaiserslautern at 0900. Thanks!

Just a little FYI that is a REALLY bad weekend to learn any lines there. Its an open track weekend and people from all over Europe are already planning trips that weekend. Its cool for a meet and everything but expect track closures every 30min and long waits to get on the track.
I was there about a week ago and it was mad packed. And it wasn't even open both days like on that weekend.

Well that weekend would be a great time to see some kickass cars and just get the Ring experience. But I really wouldn't go to learn any lines. I hit less than half the lines last time I went because of all the traffic. I'm game to show up for a meet but I won't do any laps with heavy traffic.
The best time to learn anything is on those days that it isn't open that long. Theres always someone in the parking lot that has done like 1k laps and is more than willing to take you for some good laps. I've done quite a few laps and I'm still learning.

old school, have you been on any half-day sturdays or sundays? Wouldn't it still be packed on those days and there have even less time to get good track times? Your thoughts please.
I've been on both days and from a drivers perspective I prefer half days. The last half day I went to I was able to do complete laps without seeing any other cars. If it wasn't for fluke brake issues I would've done close to 10laps that day.
I just don't like having to do battle with bikes, slower, and faster traffic. Having to watch my mirrors and try to take lines is no easy task. My recent trackday at Spa Francorchamps has made me hate traffic even worse. And with the Ring growing in popularity full days are getting crazier. Busy days are good to get the 'Ring experience' but once you get over the novelty of the Ring it will make sense.
But its just my opinion. A couple of the guys that I usually roll with enjoy the busy days. And I usually go with them anyway
I just value my car too much to have some idiot take me out.

Hey guys,
This is just another reminder of the upcoming Nurburgring trip on Saturday, 28th of June. I did propose an earlier trip on Sunday June 22 within my email group but it looks like the 28th will work for most people. Plus it will give people more time to finish any maintenance work on their cars before the meet. I would highly recommend oil and transmission fluid changes, tire changes, brake pad and fluid inspections, and oil leak checks. The ‘Ring marshals will fine and impound any car that spills any fluid on the track so please make sure that your car is in tip top shape. If not, you can still go and ask people for a passenger lap and split the cost of each lap run. I would highly recommend this web site for any questions about the ‘Ring including safety and driving tips:
http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/
Remember, this is not a race, more of a get-together and introduce newbies to the track and have more experienced track guys show the lines. Please leave rank, egos, and trash talking of other people’s cars at home.
We will meet at the ATU in Kaiserslautern at 0800 and leave by 0830. Please bring your euros, GPS, and gas coupons. We will most likely stop at an Esso station closest to the track to fill up and then head out. There is a small bar/café that we all can eat for a small break. So here is the breakdown in schedule:
0800 Meet at K-town ATU
0830 Leave ATU
1030 Gas up at local Esso
1100 Ring laps
1400 Lunch
1500 More ring laps
1700 Leave
1900 Arrive Ktown
Please let me know if you have any questions and forward this notice to those who might be interested. Thanks!

I still got laps on my pass that I need to burn so I "should" be there. If I do go I'll probably be there around 0800 see as I have to work that night.
Just out of curiosity who here as actually done laps before? I've been going to the Ring for a while now and more than willing to share the little experiences that I do have. IE being in the car when a rotor snapped mid lap, and almost shredding a few parts of my own
Also if anyone is into good Belgian Beer I could bring some with me.

As long as you got name brand rotors you should be fine. I was riding shotgun in a friends TT Stealth when the passenger side rotor snapped going into Wehrseifen. Probably one of the scariest automotive moments in my life.
