US Military

Hey guys, i've got a question for those of you that are in the Military stationed in Germany. I'm hoping to get stationed at Ramstein Air Base, and I was wondering if we were allowed to have our cars shipped over to the base.

Thanks for the replies.

Is there any kind of special registration we have to do once the car gets there and how does your insurance work?

as soon as you get here, you have to pass inspection and then you register your car. you can register for a year or two (depending on how new your car is).

for insurance, you have to have it before you register - you can go thru geico, usaa, atlantic trust, etc - they will send your proof of insurance to the registration office. so you have to have insurance ready the day before you get your car so the insurance company can email it to them.

I've heard good and bad about both insurances. Don't forget that a lot of local agency's do offer insurance.

But bottom line is that you can have one vehicle shipped over free of charge. Lest hope its an Evo

Well I currently have an 84' Datsun 200sx Turbo, but I plan on buying a Evo IX as soon as I get out off tech school, that is unless we are allowed to buy cars over there and bring them back with us legally when we return stateside, in which case i would probably try to pick up a Evo VI over in Germany.

Damn being able to buy a Evo VI and being able to bring it back would be sweet, so I guess i'll just have to stick with the IX. So come July/August i'll be looking to pick one up.

+1, also if your gonna mod the car over there, make sure you opt for the optional customization and aftermarket parts coverage. Kinda of covering your @**..

Any idea how much that would add to the cost of the coverage.
