Good day......
So, yesterday I had my driver-training, which was ok, but a bit boring in places:
first we started with a slalom on a wet course, basically go as fast without hitting any cones. Was ok, but nothing to get excited about.
then we got on a course with a very slippery surface sloping down and one had to break and try to avoid obstacles which were random water fountains. This was actually a lot of fun, cause to much playing around ended in about 2-3 quick spins.
the next part was boring, a very slippery corner which you had to sneak through, I tried to drift it, but the cones were set in a way that it just ended in terrible understeer as there was no space to flick it in.
and next was a slalom competition with everyone driving a Corvette on a wet surface. This was a lot of fun and I am still pissed off that I didn't win it but only came second
I know exactly where I lost it....
the last exercise was the most fun, again the same random waterfountains, but to make it more interesting there was a pad which unsettled the back of the car when driving over, also in a random way meaning that everybody had to be sharp and react really quickly with the steering wheel, otherwise it ended in another big spin.
The training was finished and then the headman of the show, Frank Klaas, took the participants to the Nordschleife to show then round. I followed Frank to learn his lines, which was a lot of fun. First he did three laps with an A4 1.9 TDi, getting faster every lap and the last lap he was giving it some stick, the A4 was stinkin' of brakes and not looking very happy as he cained it over curbs sending stones and debris into my face. The pace with A4 was ok and it was no problem for me to follow him. Then he took a 996 Carrera round and left me, not badly, but still left me. I guess 20 years of Nordschleife racing is a little better than a little over 20 laps....
The Carrera was smoking and steaming after the lap and really didn't look very healthy, the Evo didn't have a problem.
