thanks
They wont ship something like this to APO so Nick @ Buschur gave me two options and I chose the cheaper of the two: Gave him my address and it ships to the airport in Frankfurt. I basically pick it up from customs and drive it about 30 minutes or so to Steffen's shop. I think the cost was $700. Was originally $350 for shipping but Nick advised me that the safest option is to use a larger crate as to furthur prevent damage during shipping.

well, if you stop in with Steffen, you might see my X there. I gave it to Patrick and him for 2 weeks while I am in the States. Have it looked over and such, nothing is wrong with it.

Is Steffan knowledgable with the early 6bolt 4g63t as well? I know there isnt much of a difference. i'm only asking because me and my 91' Galant VR4 are moving to Geilenkirchen this coming spring and I'll like to know where all the reputable shops are in GE.

There aren't many that I've found. Steffen seems to be the only guy that I would trust with my car.

When I was in Germany, he turned my VII into a BEAST with a simple road tune! His VII is awesome... and also the only other VII that I have ever seen.

Be warned: I did the same when I had Shep ship my 'ultimate ratio' trans over here (which was then installed by Amberg Mitsu). It cost me about $500 in shipping to get it to Germany....Then around 600 EURO on import taxes and fees because I couldn't have it shipped to my APO box obviously. Good luck!

Not real sure where in GE you are but if you are willing to travel you can't go wrong with Colsouls. They're an actual rally team that I had do all my work when I was in Belgium from 05-08. Check em out there contact info is on their site and if you call ask for Tom. His brother Bob also speaks decent english but not as good as Tom. http://www.colsoul-rallysport.be/index.php

I think you did it wrong. You can get a form from the base to drop those import taxes when you pick it up. A couple of guys have done it here; they get the form and drive up near Koln and pick it up. I know shipping was more expensive but I don't believe it was $500, maybe half that.

Mump, I think the problem was that I ended up having it shipped to the dealer in Amberg. I talked to customs before hand. They said there wasn't anything that could be done. I dunno, I might have gotten bad info from the customs people. Either way...Nothing I can do about it now :-(

Right, you have to have it shipped to the entry point. The dealer would have had to pay customs, which isn't won't let you off the hook because you are a nice guy.

FYI, for the others...a t-case from Shep is a pound under the APO max. Shep doesn't like to ship them via USPS but you can talk him into it.

So other than having it shipped to a dealer, what would be the best way to avoid paying $XXX in taxes? VAT form, perhaps?

Get the paperwork from the base for custom exempt and pick it up at the import center in Cologne.

Curious, would this be a form I grab from the post office or is this more of a specialty function like the VAT office?
