I should have done more measuring and less building......................this new one doesn't fit at all. This is the last time that will happen. It came out nice too, it's a damn shame.

I've got the car apart now and will be doing a lot more test fitting first and welding second. I thought for sure it was going to fit perfect.

Oh well.........luckily the track isn't open yet.

^^^^^ I hate it when that happens. My Dad always told me "measure twice, cut once", and I always hear that in my head when I don't do it and the crap doesn't fit! Good to know it happens to others as well.

Great job David!!! So I take it your ported stock manifold is the best bang for a street car 350-500hp Can you refresh us what your ported stock manifold made over a non-ported one at or around 30psi 450-500 hp

aliengotpsi,

Yes, absolutely, from what I have seen so far the ported stock intake manifold is your best choice in both power and money spent up to 600 whp actually.

On a 300 whp EVO the ported intake/tb makes about 15 whp. On a 600 whp it appears it is in the 35 whp range. Figure from there the gains in between.

I see a lot of us have had that experience with our dad's and those damn flashlights!

Thanks.

Ahh the flashlight. What's even funnier is that now I'm a more savvy wrencher than my Dad, and the roles have reversed. He came over to help me put the motor back into my car and he was on the flashlight. I was the one saying - "hey, I said I needed the light on the transfer case, not some random spot on the floor"

A lot of good testing and hard work in this thread for sure.

Thank you EVO46, it's a disease actually

We cut apart the intake I built and started fitting again. Pisses me off. I had a nice one built too. As this progresses I see why the intakes for the EVO's all are set up similar, there is just limited room.

My brothers new project will have the room needed for a killer intake manifold. He's building an AWD EVO chassis with a 1941 *****'s body on it!! Firewall has been moved back in that one!

Yes, I have an update. Today we had the finalized idea just about finished when the three layers of aluminum I had the idea to put together pulled apart inside the plenum making the velocity stacks, more or less, useless. It was at that point a large aluminum box went flying across the shop, slammed into the floor and then bounced into the door. That is the update.

I'm sick, I'm pissed and I'm thinking that in 6 years of the EVO being out that SOMEONE else should have built the intake I am trying to do! haha It is so much easier just buying one of these damn things.

Ted is taking my dented up failure to the machine shop in the morning to see if it can be formed in one piece. I am commited at this point to making something.

Sounds like a familiar wrench incedent

Keep up the work, it will be worth it in the end!
