I've had excellent results with my Vishnu Stage II Subaru WRX. Even after the dealership destroyed my custom Shiv tune by reflashing my ECU, I called vishnu, described my mods in detail and sent them my ECU. They returned it to me with a new flash that runs DAMN NEAR as well as that custom tune, it just boosts .001 Mpa short and requires a slightly more careful off-throttle. NO CHARGE, not even for the postage.

I'm very happy with Vishnu products

They just dropped their price for the Evo to 499.00 and I'll get it as soon as I can spare the money. I would expect that on a bone-stock Evo their reflash is bullet proof and yes it will probably void your warranty but at least you'd still be able to pass emissions (assuming you don't do the exhaust too).

you got some homework to do before you do anything.. a vishnu "chip" is a tune. therefore you wont need a tune after you install it. there are better options such as a custom tune. you live in chicago, check out ams. and please, read up before you start modifying your car.

vishnu has pretty much ditched the evo community for the new 3series turbo market. Youre in chicago, theres plenty of shops that would be a much better candidate for you. AMS, Strictly Modified, APM to name a few.

Or if you can get a tactrix cable and laptop to download evoscan, theres plenty of remote tuners available. Mellon Tuning, 4WSTuning, Jester, TTP to name a few again. You have plenty of options besides vishunu.

Is he gonna pay only 499 and still pass emissions over at AMS?

For people that don't want to significantly mod their cars a vishnu reflash is an excellent choice, IMO.

What alternatives would you guys recommend for someone that wants to pass emissions and pay around $500?

I think you're confused to what Ecuflash tuning does.

All it does is reflash the stock computer to new settings optimizing the ignition and fuel tables among other things it can do like control boost and so forth. Pretty much same as vishnu without having to take the computer out of the car and sending it somewhere.

Passing emissions is pretty relative in some states merely having no CEL lights is passing. In my state you have to do a visual inspection and the sniffer test. You'd have to do something fairly mechanical to make the car not pass emissions like.. remove the cat, install cams, and so on.

Wow you must be a bit lost here. I suggest learning about stock ECU tuning. All of your 32 post's isnt qualifying you much.

To the OP I would contact Mellon you wont regret it , and it is painfree on your end.

There is no miracle chip , all cars are different and it will require logging and tuning to be setup properly for your car. Vishnu is not even in the game man!!!

Contact Mellon please

/facepalm.

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ing-forums-98/ here is a subforum dedicated to the multiple other routes one may take when tuning their evolution. welcome to evom 32 posts.. stay a while and look around before handing out info. and by the way, a fully custom dyno tune should be less than Vishu's 500 off the shelf 'chip"

o, and by the way, i passed MA emissions last year (same standards as CA) without the help of Shiv.
