how much boost on stock ignition?

As the title says: how much boost are you guys pushing on stock ignition without seeing any break up?

Ill be using a garrett 35r (no hta variant) with e85. Im hoping to push close to if not over 30lbs, but im concerned that the stock coil packs wont cut it.

I have a spark tech cop with cdi, but there was a problem with the connection wires so i cant use it right now and the car is already at the shop where it will be tuned. so... im gonna have to use the stock ignition for the time being and hope/pray that they can get through some clean pulls to complete the tune, and then switch over to the coil on plugs when i get the problem resolved.

the car in question is an 04' evo 8 and has 9,XXX miles on it which is comparatively low, so the coils and wires arent tired out. hoping that will save me some grief.

any thoughts?

ill briefly list my setup in case it's pertinent to my question:
BR stage 3 block
Br stage 3 head
BR 272s
35r with turbotrix tubular
ported intake mani
60mm throttle body
aem
pte 1600s
full bolt-ons (all buschur)

I run over 30psi all the time and don't run into mis-fire issues unless the plugs foul from the race gas.

I've had my car tuned on E85 and 34 psi i believe (there is a thread if you search my name) and no mis-fires just run out of injectors (1200's)

I'm sure i could benefit from something like the sparktech ignition but haven't had a problem so i'm saving the cash for other things.

All the Evo's that come through our shop each have different quirks and the need for an upgraded ignition seems to be one that you can't really generalize.

You'll never know until it happens in a real-world setting......just be sure to have your plug gaps set to whatever your tuner or you decides before shellin out the dough for a COP set-up.

i got a cop set-up, but there's a problem with the connection wires. im just gonna call sparktech and try to get them to send me new ones.

im just hoping the stock set up works to get a tune laid down, and then i can worry about fixing the cop

KOO.

I'm one of those guys that will patiently wait to have all things fixed first and then get tuned so that you are not tuning around a problem

^^ im the same way. i definately didnt approach this build haphazardly, it took me the better part of a year to get everything in order. i thought i had all my stuff ready to go. drove from pittsburgh to buschur's to get a stage 3 block swapped over, the cop installed and then tuned on e85 with an aem box.

i find out days later that the cop has issues. its entirely too taxing for me to drive to and from ohio again as i have a full time job and am in school. ill figure something out. im just gonna wait for david to call me when the tune is ready and see if he has any insight for me

Sorry to hear about all that but you are def in good hands with the Buschur camp.

I hope you get everything sorted out and it sounds like a very stout set-up is it an hta 35r?

I know a lot of the quick hi-hp builds from Buschur run cop's and they pump out lots of hp on pump fuel so only time will tell.......best of luck and let us know what happens.

ignition broke up as expected.

made 520awhp with shell v-power on the mustang at 28psi, but the car was not happy. there is more power and boost to be had on 93; tuning on e85 was not even attempted until the cop problem is resolved.

so i got a new wiring harness overnighted from sparktech up to david.

more to come

Already over 500 on pump that's GREAT!

That thing will make gobs of power w/ the cop and E85!
