What do you recommend as far as upgrades are concerned when it relates to the transmission and/or transfer case? For a daily driver on a 2.3L, I was thinking about the Quaife LSD and aluminum driveshaft.

I would like to stay with a stock-framed turbo with my 2.3L rebuild as I believe that the turbo of choice will be the biggest decision for me in the future. I'm thinking about a ported stock IX turbo.

shep transmission and stage 3 tcase with quaife. be aware your transmission might need more work then the normal price on their website though. I ended up with a $2200 bill for the trans, but i also got a bunch of extra stuff also.

bump from the dead because i'm wondering this. i'm about -><- that close to going 2.3, but not if my transmission will die and leave me stranded at the track. i only do road course, no drag racing. i never launch the car either. fluids changed regularly.

i will be going to a 5spd later, for other reasons, but need to get through that 2015 season first.

The 6speed trannies are known to be weak and in most cases don't like too much over 400tq. Best bet would be to wait.

When going the 2.3, does the 5 speed become problematic with torque & power or its strong enough to handle it? Or do you need to upgrade the gearbox for a dogbox?

From what I've seen, the 5speed seems fine up to 600~650tq+, then you start shearing gears. The average stroker build will be fine on this tranny.

Trans is fine if you are nice to it, and use good fluid such as Redline MT90, or OEM.

Do you still have the 6spd or have you 5spd swapped?

The 6spd will die on track. Not a matter of if.

I killed mine twice. Went to 5spd and never looked back.

Mileage doesn't really mean much. Depends on the track and of course, the driving and speed of the car, outside temp and duration of sessions. Thunderhill is mainly 4th gear in the Evo and that is the gear that seems to go in the 6spd. Heat is what does it, not so much power, although obviously with more power, comes more heat.

Again, case of when, not if. Enough data over the years to 100% back that up.

My tcase and rear diff never had issues.

technically that goes for any transmission :P but i know what ya mean. i run Buttonwillow, Street of Willow, and Laguna Seca. not a TON of 4th gear stuff, really. now.. if i decide to run Willow Springs.... that makes me nervous.

plus, the shifter i want is 5spd only.
