Pump gas: Evo 8 Then and Now

Here is a cool little comparison I thought I'd show. Both are 91 pump gas at 5280ish FT above sea level. Weather was probably 20 degrees cooler for 17 psi run.

This is my tune from almost 2 years ago from a "local" shop with the following mods
25 psi
Power FC
HKS 272 cams I/E
Apexi DP
Halman MBC
Walbro 255
TurboXS BOV

This ran a best of 12.9@105mph with most of the mods underneath before I went to stock ECU.

This tune was always really unreliable and knocked like crazy(peg knock bar). It was only on the car for about 3 months max before I took it off in fear the car would explode.

Current mods from the new tune(my tune)
17 psi (clutch going out)
Stock ECU
HKS 272 I/E
Ebay 3inch DP
Ebay ported o2 housing
Agency Power CBE- Test pipe
ETS intake
ETS 3.5in IC
ETS 2.5 IC pipes
APS Bov
Hallman MBC
RC1000cc injectors
Walbro 255

I might run this at the track next week just to see if I can best the previous pump gas best with less power. We will see what happens.

Overall I'd say the car feels faster then it ever did in any conditions on pump gas then it did on the previous tune.

I'm not sure if anything can be gained from this thread title or the OP.

What are you trying to show?

I Think he is trying to show how at that sea level he made more power on less boost.

By comparing a dynosheet 2 years ago that was knocking so bad he removed it to a recent VDR log......

Interesting!!!!

Boost is so low because the clutch is needing replacement. The 6 puck has 62k miles with lots of racing.

Second I posted because I thought it was funny making more power on 17psi then the 25psi could have ever hoped to. Doesn't have anything to do with sea level... If you look both are 1.27 CF on a DJ. 17psi run was also on snow tires compared to previous summer tires at 25 psi.

It wasn't really intended to fairly compare the two but it still goes to show what a good tune will do for power, perhaps that was missed. Oh well...

boost number alone does not imply power. The ability to use it in combining with fuel, timing and controlling knocks is. But 17 psi is too little for the evo and wasting your tuning WOT runs.
