40 mph to 80 mph times in 3erd gear

Hi Guys,

I´ve seen that the 40 mph to 80 mph times in 3erd gear are sometimes mentioned as a measure related to power/performance of a car (in the UK at least). So I´m looking at the time stamps vs. speed in my last log and this is what I get:

Taking fist reading at 64 kph (about 40 mph) and first at 128 kph (about 80 mph), time span is 3.552 sec.

Taking last reading at 64 kph and last at 128 kph, time span is 3.535 sec.

Is this performance decent? My car weights 2989 lbs with me in it and between full and 1/4 to full gas tank. I run with RPF1 wheels that only weight about 15.5 lbs. each. On average VD in Dynojet mode gives me around 355 whp 345 Wtq.

Cheers,

Ricardo

yes i would say thats pretty good. i used to do this on my dsm from 70-90mph times.

last tiem i checked on my evo i was 40-100 in 3 seconds flat.

id just go by the virtual dyno tho to rate your cars performance as you can see weight reduction power differences and etc..

Wow! That sounds very fast! I assume that is mph and in 4th gear pull right? Thanks for the advice, I do use VD results for tuning and rate the performance of the car with mods/weight reduction. I just wanted to see if my 40-80 mph times where on par to the weight/power of my car.

Thanks again,

Ricardo

so for these 40-80 runs what speed do you start at? (i.e. when do you start to accelerate) i'm assuming you're just measuring the time it takes from 40-80 and not starting the run at 40mph.

Oh, i asked about what gear because with my current gearing (1.407 3erd and 4.529 FD) I can´t reach 100 mph in 3erd as it tops out at 93 mph at 8000 rpm moreless. It would be a lot worse if I still had my original V RS tranny with 4.875 FD .

RSmike, correct, it was a wot third gear pull started from around 2.7K rpm (at about 30 mph) all the way to 8K rpm and I just look for the time stamp for 40 and 80 and use both first-first and last-last time data recorded for each speed to have the times I posted.

pizzamanevo8, I´ve read all about your "pizza bish" and it´s really impressive, I´m still on my stock ported 12 year old Evo V turbo at 26-27 psi peak droping to like 19-20 by redline. I´m learning as I go and experimenting to see how much more I can get out of this turbo before moving on to a HTA Green or similar, then I´m sure my car will have some better acceleration times.

Cheers,

Ricardo
