bigger turbo, bigger cams, less power
hi guys
I have an evo7 with a evo9 turbo and awd 272 (272, 10.8) camshafts, highflow cat and lighter flywheel, I've recently taken the evo in for a tune however the tuner advised that it's pretty difficult to tune the cams before dialing them in, (im finding out if this setup cams can be dialed) but in the meantime does it make since that my evo now makes less HP then before with standard cams and evo7 turbo, it kinda makes since why im making less hp but wasnt sure.

difficult to tune cams before dialing them in? isn't dialing them in part of tuning them? is he saying he doesn't trust himself to build a base map for the cams? that sounds really scary to me.. proceed with caution imo... as far as making less power .. sure.. if the cars now knocking vs before it wasnt it will pull timing and remove power.

he was saying i need to get something installed into the cams that allows the cams angles to be adjusted, i figure this is mechanical?
sorry for the lack of technical terms, the name of this mechanical tool has slipped my mind.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you shouldn't need to degree the AWD cams before getting a base map done. Just have him send you a decent base map and limp to the dyno. But frankly it sounds like the tuner is just trying to get you on a cam gear install. I would talk to the guy that first responded to this thread. I've seen some great results from him with the email tuning. Frankly, if I didn't trust my tuner so much, that's who I'd go with.

So Meek just loaded up their generic map and sent you on your way??
Dude that map is a basic stage 1 style flash for stock cams, etc etc.
You need a custom remap to suit your mods once you get decent sized cams like these ones, I'm suprised they didnt tell you that.

thats pretty much it, they loaded the map and sent me away, he said he can't tune it because the cams are too big and I need to get adjustable cam gears.
