2.3L Stock Turbo
2.3L Stock Turbo 450tq!!
Fell in love with my evo again!! Just finshed my e85 tune with Tom from Vr Speed Factory. (IT STILL HAS MORE IN HER!!)
Before Tom applied his mad scientist skills on my evo....
My original tune (from a tuner that fell off the planet) would fall on its face after 5k on a wot pull. My car is a now a new animal. Most importantly I feel safe beating on it due to the confindence I have in Tom's work. We've spent a couple months dialing in my evo. Testing false knock, switching frm a grimpspeed to a mbc (hallman mbc) and having spark blowout issues at wot and curing that with spooling up cop ( great mod)!! He has been very patient and followed thru with me to the end wrking with my schedule and doing late nite logs. This man is always available for any help and recommendations.
Here's the good stuff

Honestly I have not seen a 8.5:1 motor in awhile. 9.5:1-10:1 for pump is the usually build. Then 10:1-10.5:1 for E85/Race. I even know a lot of people running pump on 10.5:1. Anyway, and I know someone that has a 12:1 motor

btw I'm coming to visit and I expect a place to crash.
Mikey
Thx for the replies guys.. Car is a blast to drive
In oct gonna throw on either a fp red or black, with a double pump and ets 4inch fmic
Evo is almost paid off. Until then gonna wait and throw in the gsc2's, bigger injectors, and ported goodies to finish my power mods

Im also considering speed density
Im still trying to decide between a fpred and fpblack
I would be happy with over 550hp and 530tq dynojet numbers
I also dont want the turbo to die off before 8k
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

With your 2.3L engine, spool, especially from a stock-frame turbo will never be an issue. As already said, those HKS cams are not your friend right now. For the turbo of choice, I would wait for the MAP EF3 or EF4 numbers to start hitting the community before making your decision. That EF3 should be able to fart out 500whp without issue.
Man that thing tapers boost a lot up top...I'm surprised Tom didn't recommend putting an FP 25psi WGA on the car. Like Mikey said, some S2s would be nice, along with porting the stock manifolds/tb...Either way its already making over 400 hp & tq so I'm sure its a lot of fun...
fp black for the win. Do you really want to be the guy with the fp red that wishes he had a black haha like my buddy who has the red and wants more power, and my fp black is pushing 560whp on a safe tune
I'm running a 2.3 FP Red setup and putting down 573/520 on a dynojet (e85). I decided to go with the Red over the black because I wanted killer spool and manageable street power. Needless to say I am extremely happy with my decision and believe me I was very unsure if I'd wish I had gone with the Black once all was said and done. Honeslty I can't think of a better street setup. Possibly the new MAP turbo when it's better tested but it's too early to tell on that one.
I keep hearing about the map EF3 and EF4 but nobody in the community is really sharing results. I checked out the thread on them but I'm not ready to beta test it. And who knows if I'll like it. Right now I love how the car spools. I love the instant response, but I hate how it falls on its face after 5400rpms. Whatever turbo I go with i dont want to lose that much spool no more then 300rpms would be perfect. I'm hoping the EF3 would spool faster then red, closer to a green but put out just below fpblack numbers. I'd pay good money for that!!
