Stock Turbo Speed Density Tuned Evo 9 419hp E85

We had Dan's silver Evo 9 in the shop two weeks back to install some parts and do a dual map tune on pump gas and E85 in the 90+ degree heat!

Mods list:
  • AMS FMIC
  • UICP
  • LICP
  • Tial BOV
  • FIC 1150cc Injectors
  • Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
  • Turbo back exhaust

isn't speed density pointless at that power level? I think new cams would help out more. Very nice numbers, E85 is awesome!

The maf is a restiction even on lower HP cars.

Pump gas making peak power at 7300rpm on the stock turbo looks fine to me. But, the 90* temps are gonna take away from making more power.

I dont agree at all! But everyone has their own opinion about Sd on stock setup!

I've heard the same thing from others as well. It may help slightly, but anything below 600 doesn't seem to benefit much from it.

Nice numbers!

There are also other benefits such as driving if your IC piping pops off, overall smoother drive ability, 3d fuel maps, frees up intake plumbing, etc.

depends on you def of benefit..... SD tuned cars can be more responsive and IMO are more pleasant to drive once you start getting med-heavy mods. As far as them not making more power than maf.

ER evo 8 & 9 thread

Here are some back to back runs on SD with and w/o the maf. So some power was picked up. Could a better maf tune had made as much power? JB's tuning ability speaks for itself and so does GST. Every car and mod combo is different so who knows. I've gone SD and love the way the car drives. No more part throttle issues with my BPV, throttle response is much crisper, and hopefully when I am done with the tune I'll have ended up making more power.

MAF vs. SD may very well come down to personal preference, but I think SD offers some performance benefits regardless. Just my opinion.

but enough OT, nice numbers OP, awesome for the heat it was done in, did you have an e85 maf tune prior? what did you put down?

my mods are very similar to yours and I did 400awhp on 90octane and meth injection, Id love to pick up an extra 20 ponies before I ditch the stock turbo.

This is more the purpose of SD, rather than extracting more power out of a setup.

nice ive been thinking about making the switch on my evo 9.. I heard there are some leans spots in the 3800 rpm range that hadn't been figured out yet and that SD is rougher to daily? any input as far as that

didnt mean to hijack OP.. nice numbers now get some cams!

SD is smoother to daily and no there are no lean spots
