Pure Drive Performance tuned 03 BBK FULL E85
Pure Drive Performance tuned 03 BBK FULL E85
I'm not sure how to start this thread because I never thought I would have to get tuned again.
I was tuned by a reputable shop in my area about a year ago on 91. Since then I suffered from a stumbling, terrible idle. This got worse when I switched to e85. I was retuned multiple times and the issue was blamed on the car. After swapping the iac, inspecting the wiring harness and even swapping the ecu as per the Mitsubishi service manual nothing changed.
I posted a thread about this issue and this is when Christian began talking to me to fix my idle and if he couldn't do it ill get my money back. I was skeptical since most people I've talked with have mixed feelings about remote tuners.
Christian went ahead and tweaked my old map many times and got it almost perfect but at this point I knew he could make this car a beast.
My previous tune was also at 13 afr at wot, and had knock throughout the power band.
Ported BBK Full
JDL Open Dump
Megan Downpipe
Greddy Ti-C Catback
Testpipe
Kelford 272s
EVO 9 DV
GSC Beehive Springs and Retainers
FIC1250 Injectors
AEM Intake with Amsoil filter
Rewired Walbro 450
ETS LICP
ARP Headstuds
Perrin FMIC
ECU Controlled Boost Solenoid
Cusco catch can
Things added
Omni 4 bar map sensor
GM AIT sensor
ETS Short Route UICP
It was a long tuning process especially with speed density but boy is it smooth. And the best part is I'm making way more power with zero knock!
I've been spreading the word about Pure Drive Performance and I have a few friends that will be experiencing tuning magic from him.
Overall I'm extremely happy in the quick responses, tune quality and most of all the driveability of the car.
Christian will be posting a dyno graph shortly.

Thanks Anthony for the awesome review! It's been a pleasure working with you.
I'm off to coach a bunch of kids for a tennis camp this morning, then t-ball this evening. I'll get a dyno chart up this afternoon as well as some thoughts on this car.

First of all I'd like to thank Anthony for the nice words and review! He was easy to work with once he got over his skepticism of remote tuning.
Like he said I first started working on his idle problems. He rewired his fuel pump, which is causing too much fuel pressure at cruise and idle. We're waiting on SpoolinUp to do a plug and play version of MrFred's Low/High Rewire mod. Regardless, I got his idle to be very stable and no more stumble after WOT or when coming to a stop.
Once we got the idle situated he sent me some WOT logs. The only thing I've been tuning at this point was his idle, all closed loop.
He didn't have his Zeitronix WB hooked up for logging, so I remote accessed his laptop and got it to read in EvoScan. Turns out he was running really lean at WOT! His timing wasn't bad nor was it good, it was ok. It's just too bad he's been running so lean for a year!
His knock settings were set to rarely go off. That bothers me, but I see it a lot. So far every customer I've seen with this is none the wiser. And why would they? They trust their tuner.
At that point Anthony decided to take the plunge into SD tuning. He added the extra parts that he mentioned above and we were off tuning. Everything went really smoothly. I remote accesses his laptop for the first part of tuning. He was off and driving in an hour to log some boost. We've been fine tuning, but everything went really great!
For some reason Anthony and a lot of his friends are stuck on Mustang Dyno #'s. Of course, most of us are using DynoJet #'s, so I threw both up there. The Lime Green line is after I tuned it and the dark green is his baseline on his previous tune. I was a little worried that with it being so lean in his previous tune that he'd get some extra power and screw up my overlay
Anyhow, with safe AFR's, better timing and on SD (no knock BTW) he gained some HP/TQ. I like his thinking too, because we could get a lot more TQ out of this, but he had me set up his ecu boost to control TQ to under 400TQ and to slowly build up boost.
He also has a spare 2.4 block in his garage piecing together parts for a build. Once he get's that put together we'll see some high HP/TQ at least for road racing (no drag here).

I finally got a ride in this beast on Sunday, boy oh boy was I excited coming from lesser power Evo. First off the car idles great, the cams lope but not to crazy just enough to know its cammed. The first pull was great it really put me into my seat, but what was amazing was how instant it was. No delay no lag, I think it was 3rd gear 4000-4500 and just BOOM rocket ship status and I thought my Evo pulled hard. It had me questioning my pte6466 plans for a second.
Like you have mentioned earlier it had the slight and I mean slight stumble when he mashed the gas once or twice but it never did it if he rolled on to it. Obviously that relay will help but overall it was a top notch tune!

Thanks man! I'll have to visit you all whenever I get to the west coast. I want a ride in this too!
If I ever get an RS IX I may get the BBK Full for street, AutoX, etc. I still want to put the 6466 in my VIII.
Can't wait to tune your car!

! I had to do some detective work to figure out who you are. How's it going? Did you get the main seal put in?
Just in case anyone is wondering, he helped me with something on my website, so I'm giving him a discount.
