Evo 8 FP 71HTA, Built 2.0 506HP 466TQ

Hi everyone,

I just finished up the tune on this Evo 8 recently and am really excited about the results. Here the details on the build:

Built 2.0 - Wiseco HD1400 E85 10.5:1 pistons, Manley I beam rods, OEM crank
FP 71HTA
Injen IC Piping
TBE
No name tubular exhaust manifold
Synapse BOV
HKS 272 cams
Speed density tune on E85

I haven't seen a lot of results posted about the 71HTA so just thought I'd share. Pretty amazing what this turbo can do when you put it on a built motor.

Yes, peaked at just over 30 psi.

Nice numbers from such a small turbo. Didn't see upgraded injectors or fuel pump listed so i assume they are not stock. Are you running a stock unported intake manifold? who tuned the car?

Thank you! Injectors are FIC 1100s which are completely maxed out and I think the pump is a Walbro 450. I believe the intake manifold is unported. I tuned the car myself.

Very impressive . Would like to see what your setup makes on a real dyno to compare.

I would as well. I'd also like to see what it runs at the track.

I've had several cars that I've street tuned put on real dynos and the numbers have always been very close. Based on how this car feels, I have little reason to doubt that this car would produce similar numbers on a real dyno.

For ref my 71HTA at just over 30psi with the same built rotating assembly but 9.5/1 compression motor with GSC S2 on e85 was just over 420 on a dynojet but in the dead of summer... Prob a bit more on a cooler day.

OP is holding 26psi of boost at peak whp. My 71hta has oem 13 psi WGA, but it held 25.5psi on my evo. I hit 486 hp at the hubs of a dynapack on a warm day. On a DJ, my guess is I'm between 400-440whp. I'm not sure how much more timing a built engine can take, but my original tune had timing around 20°-24° up top. With 10.5 CR, that probably is enough to hit 500whp on a DJ with an aggressive tune and high AFRs up top (which OP has it at 12.5).

There is a point where more timing doesn't make more power, its only trying to push the bearings out.

Timing isn't super aggressive, the car just works. 20-24 degrees is probably past MBT. You'd probably make more power dropping that down at least a few degrees. It's not all about how aggressive the tune is. Making sure everything is built right and working properly has just as much if not more of an impact on performance as the tune.

I've already reduced my timing. I don't know how much power is lost with less timing, but it doesn't feel much different.
