Stock Speaker Wires Good Enough?
Does anybody think the stock speaker wire is sufficient with aftermarket speakers? I have a non-SSL system, but I want to change out the head unit and speakers. I will just be powering the speakers off the new HU (22 watts x4). Is this too much power for the stock wires? I would hate to replace the wires if I don't have to... I heard it's a PITA.

Stock wiring in any vehicle is fine when powering off the HU, or even a 4channel amp, with a few exceptions. There is a little bit of resistence in a smaller gauge wire vs. a larger gauge. However, the difference is how much input you have to supply in order for the output to be at the same level vs a small gauge and a larger gauge.
The smaller the wire, the more you have to amplify a signal to get the same volume. Be also carefull that if you are running over 125-150w RMS, you may want to do new wire, twisted pair only!

and to make things even easier for yourself, pick up a couple of sets of speaker harnesses from best buy or circuit city. the lancers take the new toyota ones and not the old mitsu/import ones like a lot of people think. trust me i know. i've been installing professionally for years. the harnesses will just plug into the oem ones and give you two ends (positive and negative) to hook up the aftermarket speaker. easier, faster, and will ensure you have speakers in phase.
