Pre-Install Help Please
Pre-Install Help Please
Hi, all, I am going to do an installation of amp, cd changer, front speakers for my friend's lancer oz
I have read all of the front speakers and amp instruction
So here are some questions:
1. I am using the amp to push the front speakers, how should i run the speaker wires??
2. Can I run speaker wires with RCA cable or power cable from the back to the front?
3. How should I mount the CD Changer in the trunk??
please help
Thanks much !

1. through the door gromit I assume (the rubber that goes between the interior and the door... seems logical
2. sure, why not.
3. I'd say mount it along the side, in the little slot behind the wheel well. Failing that, on the back of the 40 folding seat (if so equiped) so cd's can be changed from inside the car.

2. I've seen a few people pull up the door skid plate (pop on) and run the cables under that, or under the carpet. If Higgity Hank would come back on occasionally, he'd the one to ask.

1. Yes, run the speaker wires through the door grommet. I find that using a peice of brake line could be the BEST TOOL EVER for doing this.
2. Run the power wires down the drivers side of the car, and run the RCA's down the middle. Then run the speaker wires up either side of the car. And try to keep them equal length. This way you'll avoid group delay issues, and noise issues.
3. Are you really stuck on trunk mounting? what about under the passenger seat? Or under the drivers seat? Just be sure to face the cart loading point to the back seat, and you'd be set.

I agree with Higgity Hank on everything but the speaker wires. Keep those away from the power wires at all cost. The current draw of an amp can induce noise on the wire running parallel to it causing an audible noise in the speaker. I usually run the rca's down one side of the console and the speaker wires back up the other side of the console. Depending on how powerful an amp you are using, just splice the speaker wire back into the stock speaker wire. You won't notice a difference, and it will save a lot of pain running wire were wire already is used for the same purpose.
Actually, you are just fine running power and speakers together. The high level output of the amplifier is much less succeptable to interference than the lowe level RCA signals. The only time you might notice anything would be in a competition level SQ install, and even then the diffecence would be marginally audible at best.
thanks for all the replies !
So I should run those "normal' home speaker wires through that door grommit... but will the hole be too small???
Also, I am running a tweeter... how should I bother installing that??
thaks

Run Power and Speaker together
Run RCA alone
Where should we run our amp lead... With speaker?
So...
1. Power, Speaker, Power lead under the center console
2. Rca under skid plate
BTW... to run wire through the door gormet, a hanger works really well
Higgity Hank,
I can see your point. It's kinda like the noise is "in the noise" so to speak. But I guess since I've grown up and am not into the window busting bass anymore, SQ is all I care about. I need everything to sound crisp, clear, no dips at certain frequencies, and definitely no distortion. Plus I'm a perfectionist, so eliminating any possible noise source is worth the extra effort.

rca wire however should be run as far away from power wire as possible, and cross it at 90 degrees if need be.
yes I agree, but you can't control the distortion from the headunit, amp, or speaker. I'm just referring to controlling what you can. So, let me repeat myself before someone else comes on telling me that power to speaker wire coupling doesn't matter. I agree it is minor. All I meant was any little bit helps.
