Navigation setup questions (speed sensor issues)

Does anyone run this setup by chance? I installed it today (probably the most involved install I've ever come across) and everything works great (including my video while driving bypass) but the only thing I'm having trouble with is getting the speed sensor to read correctly. It consistently reads wrong with full gps satellite reception up until I m on the highway for 15-20 minutes at which time it seems to finally catch up. Every time I slow down it freaks out and says I'm going ~50 when I am doing less than 30 or even stopped and also the location goes way off and it continutes to show me moving on the map even though I'm stopped. I hooked it into pin 80 (black/yellow) on the ECU of my IX for the speed sensor which is where I finally found it needs to go and everything is wired up fine and seems to work like I said besides these few issues. I talked to Alpine and they said that it sounds like I'm tapped into the tach wire but according to GEM's wiring diagram for the IX I have it hooked up right. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this setup or any other nav setup. I'm all ears for anything that can help. Do these things take a while to calibrate or something? Here are the units I have:

*UPDATE

Im an idiot and had the wrong wire spliced to the speed sensor wire on the nav unit. I corrected this today and it works like a champ and is VERY accurate.

It's nearly identical to the nav system in my 05 Acura RL (also made by Alpine) but with a few more features. I love it. It's super intuitive and with the touch screen/remote/voice destination input functionality, it's really user friendly. I mounted the mic behind the little vent between the radio and the steering column on the dash for the stealth look and the push to talk button coming up through the ashtray area and stuck right next to it. If you need any help installing it let me know. It took me about 6 hours total to install wth a friend. I took out all of the trunk pieces, the back seats and the passenger seat along with the radio stuff and the glove box. Very involved install.

I'm really liking the head unit so far. I am still running the stock speakers straight off the deck and with the media expander and BBE it makes them sound amazing for what they are. It's very user friendly as well. Nothing but goods things to say about it at this point.

Well once you have the 2-din convertor piece (which is $100+ i think) then you just need to buy the hardware. I prefer alpine over pioneer but it's really just personal preference as far as brands are concerned. There are differences however that do make alpine better in my opinion. First off the nav system is waaaaay better than pioneer's. My main goal for this setup was dvd playback and nav and one thing the alpine also has is the ability to defeat the playback while driving protection which from what I hear you can't do on the new pioneer's. Other than that it sounds great and I am loving all of the features it has. It's about $3000+ plus installation depending on where you buy your gear. I installed it myself and paid just around $2900 for the av unit and nav unit. You would also need to spend probably around ~$40 in wire connectors and a stock harness adapter if you don't already have them but that's up to you. I always install everything myself so I keep stocked up on those things and already have all the tools necessary to do the job.

Hey stingerbtry,

I'm going to be attemtping the install on the Avic-D3 myself in the next few weeks. Trying to gather as much information as possible hehe.

I have an IX MR, and am not sure which wire to tap into for the speed sensor wire. I've seen plenty of ecu diagrams for the evo 8, but nothing for the IX.

How did you figure out which wire to tap into? And where exactly did you tap in from? By the ECU itself? or somewhere else?

Thanks!
