speaker choices?

hey guys,

I was wondering if you could help me with choosing what to upgrade my sound with. I'm not too versed in the car audio world so hopefully you guys can help. I'm looking for some speakers, front and rear and possibly if needed a sub setup. I listen to mostly rock. Id like the whole setup to cost no more than $300, cheaper if possible. I really just want some speakers that are better than the stock and will last. Something with clean sound, both highs and lows would be great. BTW - I have an Alpine 9855 headunit.

thanks in advance,
Suman

Nearly half of the threads in this forum are about speaker options. It would probably be quicker if you just went and read those then wait for people to repost things in this thread.

Simple, none. THe stock speakers work and your budget won't allow for upgrades of everything. Get a cheap amp and a sub that is the best improvement you will make with your budget.

With your budget, I'd recommend picking up 4 (2 sets) of these:

Your HU is very overpowered for the stock speakers as I'm sure you've noticed. Really, any 4 speakers you upgrade to will sound infinitely better than what you're on right now.

If you have enough left over buy a good quality used 4ch amp off ebay or something.

i usually go with all pioneer components in my vehicles, their speakers are very well made, and the sound is great. they can also be pricey for certain models. but they awsome. if not try audiobahn, i just replaced all the stock speakers in my 98 tercel with some 6'1/2 inch speakers and the sound is very good. also just some advice, dont go with some off brand speaker, sub, or amps. friend of mine bought a off brand amp for his subs and the thing blew the next day.

It really depends on what you want. If you really like bass then you can opt. for a sub + amp package. Since you listen to rock music you should replace your stock speakers first and get the subs later. I myself have a sony head unit, L.A. amp for the 4 speakers that i am currently running and a subwoofer amp that feeds power to the two Alpine type r subs, I listen pretty much everything and often its rock. Are you looking for just a amp + sub package all in one, or subwoofer and for example two 10s in a box?

If you really want to make your system thrash, then you should setup your system like this...
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=SPS-171A
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=SPS-17C2
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...odel=SBR-S102V
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...model=MRP-M650

Front 6.5 type-r components
Rear 6.5 type-r coaxials
10" type-r sub with vented enclosure
600w mono channel amp from alpine

It should cost about $600 bucks online for all of it but some parts will be difficult to find, but you can always find stuff wholesale if you live near one of america's major ports.

If you seriously need to budget it just do the first 2 sets of speakers and forget about the subs remember that your car didn't come with the sub and you probably were fine without it. (these set of spreakers sound excellent for rock or metal or any other type of music out there and you will notice a huge difference in sound plus they will only be $300 online)

Depending on your budget. Each brand will have their highs and lows. MB quart are a sure bet for value to quality. If you want the high end stuff i would suggest Focal, awesome stuff

I am going to putting in some JL VR650 components in my car. I have not decided on the rear deck yet but won't be anything special. The JL's up front with an old V12 amp and 2 JL 8 subs in the boot. Should be good enough for me.

meh, like the guy said above... upgrade your speakers with a good set.. you dont really need a component set either.. just get a good set of 6.5" coax's.. be sure to think about install costs too as they aren't direct replacements and some sort of adapter plate will have to be fabricated for all 4 speakers... Not too expensive if you have the tools and can DIY.

For 300 id just get a 4ch amp, and a 10"...

300 is enough for a set of mid level speakers..one set.....no where near enough for a system.

well 300 you can def get some nice speakers. Basically what i would do is go to crutchfield and find some really nice speakers. Yes they will be alot more than the budget there but then copy and paste the name of the speakers and bring them to ebay and you can get a good price. Ive bought polk components that were almost 350 on crutchfield for about 120 on ebay and that isnt for used either. THat would be your best bet for the budget in my opinion.
