Dynamat

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was thinking about putting it into door pannels when I do my AV stuff. Is it hard to install? How much would I need to do 4 doors, and possibly trunk? How much weight will it add?

I used it a long time ago on my friends trunk to help with the rattle from his speakers. You cut it to what ever shape you want and peel the back and stick it.

dynamat is used to stop vibration (most common use for dynamat...people with speakers and subs) and road noise, also insulation. there are different kinds of dynamat. there are ones that are thicker and heavier than the others. and you can cut it however you want it and stick it wherever also

I used fatmat on my doors and trunk. It's nearly indentical to dynamat extreme but waay cheaper ($130 shipped for 100sqft iirc) and only weighs 23lbs per 100 sqft. My trunk and all for doors took about 35 sqft I'd estimate so I probably added less than 10 lbs total.

My fatmat is on it's way to me and planning on doing the doors as well. How did you lay it out? did you put inside the door panel, between the plastic covers and the frame or you put it all the way in past the windows rail (to the inside part of the door shell?

How effective is it from cutting road noise?

Thanks.

I replaced the plastic vapor barriers that come on the doors with the fatmat but also put pieces inside the door as well like behind the speakers and just wherever I could reach. I think it does a pretty good job of cutting down road noise. Now that I have the doors and trunk done I can hear the noise coming from the tunnel and the firewall much more precisely. Ideally I will take out the seats and carpet and do the whole thing inside but I don't know when I will have the time or motivation to do so. Just doing the doors and trunk was a pretty good improvement imho.

I'd just skip it. Unless you put in a whole bunch of it (3+ layers), along w/ closed cell foam padding to cut down on road noise, I don't think it's worth the time/money/effort...

I've posted the link several times, but I think you're one of the few who actually bothered to go through the material. I figured that a third party testimonial would be more effective than my telling folks they installed a substandard product. Unfortunately, most seem to look for easy answers to relatively complex questions.

Stingerbtry is right. If you do the doors, you will notice loudness of the tunnel and floor. The evo basically doesn't have much sound deadening. If you want sound deadening, get a 325xi.

With that said, a little around the speaker openings can help with rattles and other annoyances. Going to the point of putting $1000 worth and 300 lbs is absurd.
