Question Anyone know where to get a High-Output Alternator for the Evo?

I'm sure there are more than a few of you out there with "mild to wild" stereo upgrades in your Evo's, and for the knowledgable, that means someone out there knows which company can provide an upgraded alternator for the 06 4G63.

My own stereo isn't huge --- just upgraded speakers and deck with a 1000 watt amp and an Alpine R-12 in a custom fiberglass enclosure. I know that I may not be pushing the envelope of what's considered to be "in need" of an alternator upgrade, but I'm just covering my ****.

Who makes these for the Evo?

When I was audio crazy, I used a company called "ohio generator" They have pre-fabbed high output alternators, or I believe they will upgrade your stocker. You ship it to them and they up grade it. *if I'm remembering correctly, google them and check it out. Sounds like you are just in the neighborhood of needing a stiffening cap though.

ralliart japan makes one specifically for the evo, but it's set at a ridiculous price at approximately $1000. I'm pushing 3000 RMS and still using the stock alternator....I see how it goes for now cuz don't want to waste anymore money.

7 years ago I built a stereo with 30 amp fuse front amp and 60 amp fuse sub amp. This would be a pretty mild stereo in todays standards. I was after sound quality. The stock alternator was 90 amps. With the car needing 40amps or so to run, this leaves a big defficiency. Caps dont do ****, extra batterry is very temporaray (maybe 15-20 minutes). Whats needed is more current. The current DOES come form the alternator. The battery is only a storage cell. I installed a 145 amp alternator from a caddy. The difference is sound quality after the alt was nothing short of AMAZING. Do the math people. Just add the fuse rating on your amps. You need that plus at least 50 for the car.

Someone said that the SSL Evo has an upgraded alternator, is that true? What's the rating for it? I have an 05 SSL Evo with upgraded stereo, 1 mono block amp pushing 1000W RMS and a 4-channel amp pushing 250W RMS x 4. When I up the volume my dashboard lights start to dim following the low notes, headlights are fine as well as RPM. Caps do nothing, so I was thinking about upgrading my alternator, is there any other thing that can be done, maybe the big three?

depending on your location. there are usually alternator/battery specialists that can respin the stock alternator or make custom brackets to retrofit a larger unit.
service around here goes for 200-700 depending on what you need.

i would suggest you call your local car audio shops and ask them who does the best alternator work. call around until you here the same name a couple of times.
